Does diamond shape matters ?

Have not been able to decide shape of diamond yet.

I like round but it is expensive so was looking for some other shape. From all that i have read i think shape has nothing to do with the sparkle of the diamond. Help me decide between:
1. Round
2. Princess (worried with those edges coming out i might not just chip/break from edge (i know diamonds are strong but i am very careless & keep hitting things

3. Cushion
4. Radiant
Infact ANY except emerald, heart, pear & Marquise ...help help! Plsss My ring size is big around 8.5 plus i am not going for a sidestone or fancy ring because my budget($4000) will not allow that so i have decided to spend more on diamond than ring setting - what will look best! Yesterday finally decided to go for platinum ring.

Hi,

Yesterday I was looking at round stones of all AGS0 cuts and the RB faced up bigger than the Princess of almost the same size. If you're looking to impress by size, round is the route to go. It's all really personal preference, though, as I'm not a fan of princess cuts.

Cushions are intriquing though and more unique if you like the way they look. I've only seen a few in person and I've never looked for a radiant in any store since they also aren't my thing.

Have you tried stones on in person? You may find that round or square/rectangle shapes look different on your finger and one looks more appealing than the other.

It''s really personal preference so I agree you need to try on more stones until you find the shape you really like.

Shape does matter, though, for a number of objective reasons as well. A round will sparkle more than an equally well-cut fancy shape, in part because the symmetry has allowed for precise cutting that maximizes light return. Also, some cuts are deeper than others, like MC said. Also, for maximum sparkle, it''s also easier to find a well-cut round than another shape. It also means you can save some money by going for a lower color, since the sparkle can mask color pretty well.

OTOH, rounds are pricier per carat than other common shapes.

for the biggest sparkliest bang for your buck, get a round.

other than that ovals or pears will look bigger on your finger than a cushion. I''m not a fan of princess so, not much help there...

I agree with Kaleigh - ovals are gorgeous, and face up big for the size, so they give you a lot of bang for the buck. I also love how they elongate the fingers. I have a friend who got an oval as her engagement ring, and it''s one of the most stunning rings I have ever seen.

Shape actually matters quite a bit

I'd really suggest go trying some different shapes on - things can look very different on your hand than on a monitor! I thought I wanted pear sidestones, then I saw how they looked on my finger

That said, I love the idea of an oval. Elegant, faces up large for ct wt, and flattering!

Oval is a great suggestion, they can be stunning diamonds if well cut and definitely give bang for the buck as they can look large for the weight.

I would definitely go try on different sizes and shapes to see what you like on your hand. I like rounds, ovals and emerald shaped diamonds.

I don''t think that this is entlerly true as different shapes will return light differently and therefore affect how a diamond sparkles. All diamonds should sparkle, but not nessesarily in the same way.

For example a crushed ice look radiant will sparkle in a different way to a round brilliant or a princess cut.

I think the best way to narrow down the choices is to find a store that carries a viarties of shapes and go and compare the shapes side by side to see what you like. Also remember the the cut of a diamond can really affect the way it spakles too and it''s hard to judge fancy shapes on their numbers alone.
