Does CBI cuts lab grown diamond now?

We are not cutting them through CBI. We are buying extremely well cut rounds, ovals, marquise, princess, cushions and other fancy shapes.

Having the rounds cut by CBI is something we will be looking at in the future.

Thx a lot! Nothing better than having a feedback directly from you Wink!

I do believe there definitely is a market there for CBI lab diamond and am quite looking forward to it~=)2

Great question! I was curious about this too. This is very exciting @Wink ! We know all your lab diamonds will be expertly vetted, whether they’re from CBI or no. I am very excited !

Any update on this? The website says coming this month. I’ve been checking daily

You can call or email Wink or maybe even use the chat feature. I was in touch a couple weeks ago and they sent me info on what they've got while the website is getting set up. No doubt they'd do the same for you. There are Asscher, Cushion, EC, Oval, Princess, Pear, Radiant and of course Round diamonds!

Note that they are cutting lab diamonds now (you can email for inventory info), but they arent cutting lab CBIs. Just to clarify.

Actually, we are not cutting the lab growns at all. We are sourcing some excellently cut gems, but not cutting them.

It is my dream and goal that eventually we will have a large enough market to justify the cost of cutting them to CBI standards. I do not want to have anyone mistakenly thinking that we are cutting the lab grown diamonds. The truth is that we are proudly selling the very well cut lab grown diamonds and selling them with the GCal reports which we believe to be very conservative and much more accurate than the other reports we have seen.

Very excited to see the inventory! It’ll be reassuring to know that expert eyes have selected the best ones!

Wonder why no prices? Seems like calling on stones for prices is an extra step that many won't want to take if you are shopping. They look like nicely vetted stones, but the lack of transparency on pricing, where you have to call to speak to a salesperson, is off-putting to me.

I probably wouldn't do that. I find it strange. People were really angry at no certificates on James Allen, with having to ask for each, but a call for price isn't making any waves.

For a couple of reasons.

1. I am not working on someone else's live feed. Lab grown diamonds change prices often and I do not want to spend hours and hours every week changing prices on a list. When you call, I can check current pricing and give you our best shot at that moment in time.

2. These diamonds sell quickly. Since I am not working on a live feed, I have to also check to be sure they have not sold since the last time I talked with my associates at Wolf Diamonds.

I know it is an extra step, and for those shopping only on price, I will not be their optimum vendor. These are very well cut diamonds and we are using a very conservative lab for their reports. Those using less strict labs will always be cheaper.

I can understand your points, but fwiw, as a potential consumer, it's just off-putting. I appreciate you explaining your viewpoint as well, as the business owner and can understand some of the challenges you highlight as a vendor.

This thread about having to send a message for pricing shows that in general, people don't want to have to engage with a sales rep for pricing though.

People generally appear to not want to send a "DM" or direct message to ask for a price, let alone have to call someone for a price on the telephone. The sentiment in that thread is that the practice of having to ask for pricing is just off-putting or as the original poster called it "a tactic that sucks." I don't think my reaction is going to be a one off- and I am someone that just bought lab grown stones for a pair of earrings, as accents.

A sample quote from that thread (not me): "On another note why do sellers not list prices??? There are quite a few that don't and it's so annoying. I feel like it takes more time to answer my emails. They are missing sales by this tactic and I obviously don't understand the point. As someone mentioned in the other thread, I don't want to be labeled as a perpetual window shopper. Vendors, please chime in."

or worse- people don't ask because they assume they can't afford it:

"I'm always sitting here thinking, if I have to ask the price, I probably can't afford it. So I never bother. I prefer the known selling sites. I feel safe and anonymous."

I didn't buy solely on price. It was based on a variety of factors, as to the stones I did buy.

Also, for what it is worth, the general consumer of lab grown diamonds is a millennial or younger in all the research I have seen for the most part. It's the younger crowd that is okay buying lab grown for an engagement ring.

If you take a look at wedding forums specifically- young people are leading the lab grown movement by a large heft to a degree. Those folks don't want you to call them- if you call them, they don't pick up. They don't check voicemail routinely. Many of them don't want to talk on a phone at all and want you text them! I can say that, because I am one year off from being the oldest millennial or am the oldest millennial (40), depending on the scale of years for generations that are used.

Just putting out some general sentiment, given the topic and ancillary discussion on sales tactics and perception of same.

As I said, the stones look nicely vetted and combed through, leaving the buyer with options that are all nicely cut.

Thank you @elizat. I appreciate your points too, and in a perfect world I would hire one or two people to just manage the list. The last thing I want to do right now is have someone call, or most likely NOT call because a three week old price makes me look like I am way overpriced.

Eventually I will hire that extra help and take out that barrier to more sales.

Yea I agree. Unfortunately it is almost a dealbreaker for me! And I suspect many millennials.

Especially because LG diamonds vary in price, I’d rather at least know a ballpark

Interesting. I see the issues.

There has to be a way to do it through automated processes, but it might require a total overhaul of existing workflows.

Before hiring staff…maybe it can be solved another way through technology

I digress! Exciting regardless

I wonder if there's a way to give a ballpark price? Even something like "Under $XX" would help people know whether to bother calling for the exact price.

Great idea @glitterata. Like this recent IG post.

Wink, if that job is part-time and can be done remotely, hire me. I've worked from home for ten years. I'll train for nothing.
I'm old but I'm polite and thorough.
