Does BGD have an upgrade policy?

I've just spent half an hour perusing their site, and I can't find any mention of one. Am I looking in the wrong place?

They sure do, however you must upgrade two out of the three Cs - carat, color and clarity.

Here's the wording from their website, and it's hidden in the FAQ section:
We offer a Lifetime Upgrade Policy on Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows certified diamonds. This does not apply to jewelry that contains diamonds.

Apply the original purchase price (less shipping) towards your upgrade and pay the difference.
We also offer a Lifetime Upgrade Policy on Brian Gavin Blue diamonds. This does not apply to jewelry that contains diamonds.

When upgrading to another Brian Gavin Blue Stone apply the original purchase price (less shipping) towards your upgrade and pay the difference.
When upgrading to a Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamond, apply 95% of the original purchase price (less shipping) and pay the difference.
ALL upgrades need to include two of the three following variables - size, color and clarity, additional charges may apply at time of upgrade .

Please note: Original certificates must be returned together with the diamonds. Each certificate that is not returned in its entirety and/or its original condition will incur a $50 restocking fee.

Thanks so much, recordaras. Bad news for me, though, as I am looking at a Brian Gavin Select stone. Am now thinking I might need to keep looking.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly; if I'm not going ahead with it, I'd rather squish that dream sooner than later!!

Actually, hang on… does *this* mean that I can upgrade to a BGD Signature stone from a BGD Select for the cost of a 5% change up cost?

<the sound of doors reopening>

:)

Why don't you phone them or email them and ask, explain what you want to purchase and what you have already. They will tell you what they can or can't do for you.

I think that part refers to the BGD Blue stones (so 100% when upgrading Signature to Signature, 100% when upgrading Blue to Blue and 95% when upgrading Blue to Signature), however it might be worth asking them how the Select stones fit in.

In any case I sure hope you are able to find the perfect stone! Any chance there's something from the Signature ones that might be a good fit? If you're planning on upgrading down the road anyway.

arkie - yes, I will. But it's Sunday afternoon and they're closed, I'm hanging out on their site, and I thought someone here might know.

I've seen some posts that refer both to a new trade-up policy and also an 80% trade up, but those posts were 18 months ago.

Anyway, will pin it down on Monday.

ETA I actually emailed them this question on Friday, but it's a long wait for a woman desperate to buy diamonds!!

And recordaras - I'm doing a few projects at the moment, and this one was an add on, so my budget is limited. I'd LOVE to have a BGD Sig stone, and have had a few in the past. But for this project I'm looking for a bargain, so that rules out BGD Sigs.

Calling or the Live chat option might be your best bet right now - they have been crazy busy all through the holidays and with St.Valentine's day coming up it's getting even crazier, so the email replies take a while! I'm super impatient too, so I've just started calling them with every question. :)

And I definitely understand about the price issue too - maybe IDJ could help you find something at a reasonable price point?

recordaras - I'd forgotten about IDJ completely. I've done one project with them in the past and they were great. Definitely worth giving them a call.

Thanks!

No problem! They are masters at working with budgets, so definitely worth a try. :)

I'll let you know if anything comes from it! :wavey:
