How expensive is a Sarin or OGI machine? Do most internet diamond shops have it? If I ask them to test a stone on a Sarin or OGI but they don''t have it, what can they do???

A basic Sarin / OGI machines sells for $8-13K depending on the number of channels it has and what size diamond it can measure up to... It seems like a small price to pay for the ability of providing your clients with accurate information about the diamond they are buying... Our OGI Mega Scope measures up to 13 carats and ran "a bit more" because of some additonal features and software upgrades... The versions used by the laboratories run about $75K. Most dealers who do not have Sarin / OGI machines can rely on the measurements provided by the Sarin / OGI machines used by the cutters who they buy stones from, however we would like to mention that you should not settle for the simple avery type mailing label versions of the reports which only provide the average measurements... The full page reports including "top down" views of the crown and pavilion sections provide facet-by-facet indications of what the averages are based upon, the information is quite insightful and will enable you to make a better decision.
