GIA call the style "Old European Brilliant", and AGS calls it "Old European"
Therefore, I think August Vintage European is a more appropriate name and description for the product.
Thank you flyingpig, I guess that makes sense. Do you know if at any time lab reports specified whether the cut is ideal as with the AVCs? I don't see cut grading in OECs but I do see them qualified as ideal (or otherwise) by GoG
They were originally called August Vintage European cuts at least informally, but somehow AVR just became popular perhaps because round might be more clear to some people than European cut.
AGS does not grade AVRs for light performance, but GOG provides more than enough on their site to determine that! (The stone in my avatar pic is an AVR.)
