I am looking for someone who posts on here called "Gypsy"

I have seen her e-ring and i love it, it''s very similar to what I''m looking for. I need some inspiration on wedding rings to go with it. I''m probably getting the e-ring custom made but wondering whether i should bother getting the band made at the same time...also, pics, sketches, etc would help when explaining this to my designer. Is the band 2mm?

Gypsy if you''re there i''d love to hear your thoughts on this! Your ring is amazing!

Ah thankyou, this is exactly what I was loooking for! :) allthough if i could get in touch with Gypsy and find out whether she has any sketches / ideas of where i may be able to buy this etc then that would be great too. Does she post here much???

Gyspy's ring was custom made by a designer named Ocean Pearlman, who works though Wink Jones.

There is a setting from Whiteflash that is the same concept.

ETA: I am not sure if you saw her e-ring thread, but here it is.

you might also contact excel diamonds, if you are not going to work with the original designer, as they made a replica at one time... (see this thread for details)

gypsy still posts here and I''m sure she''ll chime in when she sees this.

Personally, I would never buy this ring from Excel purely on principle. They saw Gypsy's ring and then stole the design and put it on their website. Not cool IMO considering she spent a considerable amount of time designing it.

Ocean Pearlman did the ring and it's stunning. I have seen it many times IRL and it's just beautifully executed and if I wanted the same ring I would go to Ocean to have it made without a doubt. I think so many of the delicate features may not be captured in a replica. Her wedding band is Scott Kay from Pearlmans.

I know she's had some camera problems recently so it might take awhile for more pictures.

I'm so glad you like the ring, it is lovely and special to me, both for the process with Ocean who is a very talented and gracious lady, and for the meaning of my engagement ring.

I really appreciate everyone chiming in about my rings, and most especially Neatfreak's thoughtful post.

I do have a thread with more pics of the ring than have been posted on here, and obviously this forum is public so the pics are searchable and findable-- not a state secret. But before I post the lnk I would really like to emphasize that I posted these pics to share my joy about my setting and having a completed ring that I really love so that my freinds, my fellow pricescopers, could enjoy them. I did not post them to enable coyright infringement of Ocean's work. So I would ask that anyone who is interested in the exact design of my ring (including the underwires) to contact Ocean for the original! She's a pleasure to work with and can be reached through Wink Jones at www.highperformancediamonds.com .

I do definitely feel flattered that anyone would like my ring enough to want one and am so excited for your upcoming project!

Here is the thread with the bulk of the pics... if you would like more, Ocean will have some, I'm sure, and will be happy to provide you with them and a qoute as well as any information about the proportions of the setting.

As for my band. I did want Ocean to make me a matching band, but by the time I needed to order it my wedding budget had um... taken on a life of it's own

, and I didn't have the funds to get anything other than either a plain platinum band, or my scott kay band, which was pre-owned and purchased from Pearlmans.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I'm so excited for your project and hope you will update us frequently with pics and information.

Nicely said Gypsy.

I'm truly not trying to be rude at all, I am genuinely curious...unless a ring has a copyright, isn't it 'fair game' so to speak to be replicated (Excel)? I mean, the WF ring that LtlFirecracker posted is a replica of the Tacori 2620. All rings are copies of something it seems. Anyway, sorry for the threadjack.

Ocean does hold copyright on this design. The requirement for ''inspired by'' settings is that they not be exact, some percentage of change has to have gone into the design. That''s why reputable company''s like BGD, WF, Leon... do not do exact replicas and will make sure there are enough changes to more than adequately meet the threshold. Whether Excel''s inspired by meets that threshold would be a question for the courts or a mediator, although I''m sure Excel would argue that it does, and the other party would argue that it doesn''t Fortunately the incident was settled by Excel agreeing to give Ocean original attribution of the design, and to keep some modifications to the design inherent in their version, so that it would not be an exact copy, or if it were considered one... to give credit to Ocean for the design.

Thank you Steel.

Ah, thanks for the info Gypsy!

That is such a gorgeous ring

Ahh, sorry for my suggestion. For some reason I thought that a Gypsy-like ring made by Ocean herself was not readily available, don''t know where I got that from. Apart from any design theft issues, just from the pictures this looks like one of those cases where the detail work on the original is just fabulous and didn''t fully translate into the imitation, which is a fairly good self-serving reason for a consumer to go with the original designer. Ocean really did awesome work on that ring (with Gypsy''s design input).

I didn't realize that was a Tacori replica. I do agree that if you want that design, than the person who designed it should be contacted. I just put the Whiteflash one up incase the OP wanted a pre-made ring with a plan shank and halo. Of course, there are some differences in the WF ring and Gypsy's.

Interesting, I didn''t know all this.

Gypsy, I can''t remember if I ever commented on your ring, but I''ve seen it many times here. I love it!

Anytime Laila!

It's different for designs in the 'public domain'... ones that aren't copyright protect anymore because they've been around for so long they just aren't protectable, or because someone didn't enforce their right and lost it for some reason or another, or because they are so basic or generic there's nothing there to protect. But for a recent designs, exact copies are a no-no as a general rule. This isn't legal advice, BTW, just my general understanding of things based on experience and reading.

Thank you Swedish bean!

No worries Cara! I don't expect many know all the details of my ring's story (what there is of one), that's why I posted the information. You can go to Ocean and (as much as it pains me) the design is actually called the Gypsy, I believe. Or something of that nature (at Ocean's specific behest).

LT, I love that WF design. And the Tacori that (may or may not) have inspired it. One thing, if two people come up with the same design, without knowing of the other's design (completely independant design processes), then it's not infringement. You have to know about the design to infringe on it... or something like that. But anyway... I've seen the Tacori, and while they are close, they aren't exact because at the very least the point size on the melee are very different and give a different proportionality to the ring as a whole, plus the profiles are completely different.

Hi Dream!

Thank you Zoe!

I didnt see all this! I''m sorry for the late reply!

Gypsy - I did see the Excel version and honestly, it''s not at all as beautiful as your ring, it looks a bit clunky and weird!

LtlFirecracker - I am going to go and look for your ring! I am interested in the halo part of the Tacori 2620 and merging it with the band part of Gypsy''s ring. I think that would look stunning!

Thanks for the info Gypsy - I will definetly give Wink Jones a call!!

I''ve also been speaking to WF about merging the Guinevere and the Halo bezel prong setting, they have given me quite an affordable quote, my budget is really tight so I''ll have to keep my options open at this stage...

For the moment, i''m off to hunt for LtlFirecracker''s design. Is that the WF one? Anyway I guess I''ll see in a minute.

I will update you accordingly! Thankyou all so much for your input! All this deciding and designing business is quite stressful but i''m glad I can come here for advice and help!!
