Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on clothes?

Hi
I have a beautiful pave band (ucut) and i find it kind of snags a bit against material. It does not damage clothing, just feel a lil pull.
Does anyone else have this issue? It is more of a discomfort than anything else. I wonder if the v cut pave woukd be less likely to do this simply because of the way it is cut?????

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Hey Abby12 :wavey:

I have a lot of pave on my ering too, and I notice the occasional snag or a little "fuzzy" stuck in the prongs. I try to be really careful with my rings, so I make a conscious effort to be mindful when tucking in shirts, putting my hands in my pockets, or anything else that might cause it to snag. Unfortunately, I think that it just goes with the territory. That said, I have friends with solitaires (and one with a half bezel!!) that say they get little fuzzies stuck under prongs occasionally, so... <shrugs> :))

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Hi
I just wondered if most pave does this because i also have a bright cut pave band which does NOT do that!
I like the look of cutdown/u cut better though!
Anyone else? Is this normal and do you get used to it?

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Nothing I have that's pave does that. The prongs are so small and don't really register to me in most cases and I do check my prongs on occasion under a loupe. The prongs that hold the center stones of a ring will occasionally get lint (or cat hair in my case) in them...

You have never had a tiny piece of fuzz caught in a prong before??? Wow. I've seen photos of ERD, JA, IDJ, VC, SK, LM, Tiffany and pretty much every other vendor I can think of with pave posted with fuzz in them -- just didn't know anyone could be "immune" to it! Do tell me your secret!! ;))

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

I have a pave band I wear 24/7 - it's never snagged my clothes. The prongs on my ER - yes, occasionally snags. Maybe this is in the definition of "snag;" but, if my pave ring kept "catching" a little bit while I was getting dressed etc, it would bug me.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

I have worn rings that do that. But none of my own do it. I would be concerned, because you cut pull off or loosen prongs. Can you take to a jeweler with a good in house bench and ask them to take a look and fix it?

I don't have a pave band with prongs... only my ering's halo will sometimes catch some fuzzies. It has snagged on a dress before, but it was a bridesmaid dress in chiffon. Hopefully it'll never snag on "real clothes" -- fingers crossed!! The fuzz bugs me enough, but then again, I'm OCD about it. ::) ;))

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

It is my Steven kirsch u cut pave. It is the whole ring that does it, not just one tiny spot.
It tugs at silks anf knits. I am confused now.
Now i feel like maybe it is just the type of pave?!
What do i do? It drives me nuts and i do not believe there is a problem with the ring itself....
Should i have it remade into bright cut pave which does not do this?

When I put on a shirt or sweater, I roll the gallery of my ring into my palm and cup it. That protects it from snagging.

This is a good idea... I also try to wait until the last minute to put on my rings and try to be very careful when tucking in a shirt or diving into tight pockets.

OP asked if my pave snagged on clothes and at the moment I can't say it does. However, it is Texas, and at the end of September we are finally down in to the low 90's, so I may change my tune again when my wardrobe consists of something besides spaghetti strap tanks and palazzo pants.

Does it get lint? Sure (though I clean my rings after wearing them) but lint and snagging on clothing aren't the same thing to me. But my pave never has dragged on clothing (so far) and the only thing I have had actually snag on something was a prong of a larger stone.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

So is it an issue with how mine is made maybe? I thought SK was one of the best pave setters?
To me it just looks like the tiny cut downs you see in ucut pave that will inevitably snag.....
But nobody else seems to have this issue.....
What should I do?

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Since nobody else has this issue, I will assume the workmanship on my ring is the issue.....

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Abby, maybe you could contact SK and speak with him about it?? I would recommend that first. It may be as easy as having him adjust, tighten, and/or polish your prongs. Good luck! :))

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

I'd contact Steven, then send it back and have him adjust it. :wavey:

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Hi - this totally happens to me too, but only on some of my rings, and of the rings that catch, some are prongs from the larger stones and some are prongs from pave. I haven't spent any time on figuring out whether it's a kind of pave (what it seemed like to me is it was a little random), and I've just not bought rings that caught after I figured out it was a problem (also because the pave that catches tends to be rougher, and I have really sensitive skin). What bothers me is not the fuzzies caught in the ring but the snags in my clothes - I've destroyed a couple silk and terry cloth shirts (on the latter it's the inside that snags). I haven't had any lm/vc/sk pave, so can't comment on that, but otherwise I've had cheap and high end pave that catches and doesn't.

This is not much help but wanted to flag that it might not be the quality of your ring (eg it could be a type of pave) and that I'm also interested in case someone else has any I sight about what does this.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

I have four pave' bands I notice this with certain fabrics they will "bump" along if I'm smoothing... mostly my lulu lemon pants... not sure why.... on jeans or dress pants or skirts (wool blends) no.. it's just mainly my workout stuff. OK.. I'm sure this sounds odd but they catch. One set of of bands is from Sareen and the other set from ERD.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Mayk - that totally makes sense as Lulu pants or that type of fabric is very clingy. If it was just that tupe of fabric I would not mind, but this is happening even with plain old cotton. It catches on everything! I will contact SK and see what he says for sure.
I am really disappointed because I love the look of the ring! If this is just the way pave is, then i will just get another brightcut pave band next time. That does not tug or snag in the least....not even on my Lulu's
Thanks for the feedback ladies...

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Just wanted to give you an update.
I sent my ring back and there was nothing wrong with it. Apparently that is normal for ucut pave....
I guess i am just more sensitive to it, because i am changig styles. I could not stand the tugging at my clothes all the time!

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Can you post a picture of your ring? How big are the pave diamonds?

I have plenty of pave rings (u-cut and v-cut) and they don't snag. However, I do have one pave ring with slightly bigger stones and it is a bit scratchy. It doesn't snag clothes but it isn't as smooth as the others.

I have pave rings from Leon, Steven and Maytal.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Hi Charmypoo,

My pave ring is the exact ucut one you have from SK but....it is 2 mm wide. I sent it back and am having it remade to somehow make it smoother. I was worried it may just be my pickiness, but nope I had others try and see and they all agreed. I also compared it with the pave of a few friends and none had the same issues. :(

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Mine is actually 1.5 mm. I am wondering if it becomes more snaggy as it gets thicker. My band is super smooth and no issues at all.

My other ring as I mentioned was a bit scratchy when new and now it is fine.

Re: Does anyone else have issues with pave snagging on cloth

Hmmmm well I had it for a year and it seemed to get worse, not better. Fingers crossed that the issue will be resolved.
