Does a Tapered Band Inherently Create Gap with Wedding Band?

Hello everyone! Well, I finally find the perfect stone for me, a 2 carat round brilliant, thanks to everyones help here!!

Now, I am having trouble finding a setting which appeals to me. I am looking for something in platinum, feminine, 4 prongs, and where the shank tapers into the stone. I also prefer an engagement setting which can sit flush with many wedding bands (am thinking of getting a half band of diamonds eternity ring). I really like the look of a tapered ring, but by their very nature (being that the width of the shank gets more narrow), are all tapered rings always going to have a little gap when sitting with a wedding band? If I go with a band that is uniform in width, does that eliminate the chances of having a big gap?

Sorry, I know it sounds confusing, but basically, are there any tapered bands which will sit flush with a wedding band that someone could recommend? Am currently considering the sleekline legato which seems to be so popular here, and asking if they can reduce the size of the donut and set the stone a bit higher? I know that donut helps protects the prongs of the ring, but I prefer a look that sits flush. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: Does a Tapered Band Inherently Create Gap with Wedding B

I have the same exact concern! I think I've decided I want a slim, plain band that tapers toward the stone, but I'm scared that I won't be able to have my wedding band sit flush against it. Galatie, what did you end up doing? Should I try to get my boyfriend to make them set the stone higher so a band can slide under more easily?

I'm thinking about something like this for the e-ring (with a larger center stone):

Or, if my center stone is large enough, will I not need to worry about being able to slide the wedding band under it? Or no matter the size, do I need to make sure the stone is set high enough to accommodate the wedding band underneath it?

Thanks for your help!!
