This is subjective, but how big do you think a diamond has to be to not get overpowered by a thick heavy setting?
For design, I'm picturing something like T+CO Etoile, or the WF half bezel.

Edit: don't know how to edit the tittle. hope you enjoy my creative typing...

I don''t think so as long as the bezel and band are done well and are delicate. A big bulky setting of any kind will dwarf a smaller stone, but a well done one won''t.

I''m new to the forums, I''m trying to show a pic.

You got it! I think the most important thing is that the piece is made in size to reflect the size of the stone. I.e., that the band is thinner for a smaller stone, etc. Tiffany''s does this and thus I have seen some gorgeous 1/3 ct. etoile rings. The cheap ones don''t seem to do this and I think that''s where it''s lost.

I would bet that WF does customize the band width though, so I would give them a call.

Thank you! I am probably getting a calibrated non-diamond stone and hope I am able to comfortably afford to switch it later. The setting doesn''t "pop" the way a thinner band with a prong setting does, but I like it.

Hi lOv3lif3,

I''m not sure what diamond size you are looking at but check out the below link for a 0.745 ct round brilliant half bezel which I think its beautiful and does not overpower the stone at all. I think it''ll be fine for a smaller than this too.

hacksaw35''s beautiful half bezel

Hope it helps.

I don''t think so, but I''m terribly biased. Mine is a 0.6, and so is Shigi''s

I don''t have a pic, but my SIL''s ring is a .5 ct in a generic Tiffany Etoile setting, with the matching white gold band, and it''s gorgeous. I actually really like that look for a smaller stone, because it adds more to the ring.

agreed it generally looks better on smaller stones, as on bigger stones, the whole ring will start to dwarf the finger.
