I DO! I just recently found out that this is supposedly against the law .. oops! Does anyone else use their business card for non-business things?!

No, and I never would. The purpose of the card is for business expenses-and the bills, along with my receipts, get submitted and then paid for by my company. Depending on the the amount, I sometimes need to get it pre-approved.

What made you think it was ok to use it for personal expenses?

Oh wait, unless you''re talking about your own business? Then I have no idea whether or not it''s legal.

Never! I don''t even use my business cell to make personal calls!

No, unless it''s your own business where the lines blur more easily.

I''ve never had a business credit card nor am I well-versed in company rules about such things, but I would have assumed that using it for personal expenses would OF COURSE be waaaaaaaaaay not okay.

Do you pay for your expenses??? If you do, then I can sort of see why you didn''t know this was illegal. But if the company pays for them, then well, I don''t even see how you could do that unintentionally.

Maybe reading generously here, but I initially assumed the OP meant just using a business credit card for personal expenses without necessarily passing on those expenses to a separate entity like a company. My husband and I were all set to get a business credit card for his work as an independent contractor and charge all our personal expenses to the card until we read the fine print and realized it wasn't allowed. We were just thinking of getting better credit card bonus terms - not any kind of tax fraud or fraud against a separate company (in this case defrauding the company would have been self-defrauding) - but the business credit card terms specify only business expenses on the card so we passed, as he doesn't really have sufficient business expenses to warrant a separate card at this time.

I guess I should clear up that I own my own business therefor everything I spend comes from MY business bank account which is money that I''ve made.

Nope. I have a corp AMEX and of course we have to pay the bill and expense it. But even then, I don''t use it for personal reasons. That''s what my own credit cards are for.

In our company it is a big no no.

Ah, I can see why the lines are so much more blurred. If you pay for your ''personal'' expenses with your business bank account itself, is it still not legal?
