Do you think I can get this Zales ring to be custom designed

Hey everyone, first post here... so I hope I'm doing everything right :) me and my boyfriend almost purchased a zales ring that we got a discount on, but then I told my boyfriend let's give ourselves more time and shop around to see if we could find something cheaper since I felt bad about going 1 or 1.5k over my boyfriend's budget. I had no idea about pricescope and what a rip off stores like zales were when we were going to purchase it. Anyways, I then discovered PS and I'm grateful for life for all of you who have gotten me educated!:)

I've looked at many sites, including Bluenile, Whiteflash, James Allen, Brian Gavin and a few more. Many had settings I like, but I didn't like any of them as much as I liked the Zales setting that we looked at. There are similar settings, but don't exactly look like it. Here it is http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12131459

I found diamonds that I liked on James Allen and Whiteflash, do you think either of the two could custom design me a ring to look exactly like the zales celebration ring in the picture? I tried thinking of changes I'd like to make to the ring but I can't find any so far. Would there be copyright issues? Also, how much do you think the custom design would cost me in total, can you think of an estimate? I'm thinking either 14k or 18k white gold, and the diamond I liked is about $5,200. My boyfriend said he doesn't mind spending as much on it as it would cost at zales as long as we're getting a better diamond (as in better color, clarity...etc).

Thanks in advance!

Yes, it's a very basic setting and ANY pricescope vendor can make it. I wouldn't pay for BGD or WF or any of the higher end CAD houses. You can get that from ID Jewelry. Give Yekutiel a call.

+1

There wouldn't be any problem having the ring remade with a vendor and ID jewelry is a great place to start. There are Psers here that are fantastic at locating settings that are almost identical to the ones posted about, so its likely that someone may come along and already know where a setting like that can be purchased, then of course you wouldn't even have to go custom.

Have you selected your diamond yet?

Thanks Gypsy and Christina. We haven't had a final decision on a diamond yet but we found a 1.2 ct diamond that we really like in our price range that we will probably end up choosing. I have one final question, say for example if a setting that is very similar to the custom setting I'm wanting to have (same metal, size.. etc) costs $300 and the setting with the diamond I want costs a total of 6k ( just an example), how much would it approximately cost cost if it was custom made? I just want to have an idea, would it be like 1k more expensive? a couple of hundreds? I have no idea :)

Depends. I'd say up to 1K at ID Jewelry but since it's a peg head, maybe less too. More at other vendors. Call Yekutiel, tell him PS sent you, and chat with him after sending him the pics. He'll tell you what it will cost and then you'll have the real price and can make an educated decision.

That looks like a typical cast setting that can be ordered from a findings catalog. No reason at all to have that custom made. It has a flat shank and tapers in at the stone and has a head shaped for a princess cut. It should only cost a few hundred and will cost more if you try to have it custom made. You need to be dealing with a jeweler and not a diamond supplier for the ring part. But it is best to buy both from the same source if you can. You probably cannot find a really good princess locally anyway. I would probably just go with Gypsy's advice and contact ID Jewelry, tell them you are from PriceScope and want an excellent cut princess and email them a picture of the setting. Tell them you hope they can find a similar cast setting that can be ordered. The diamond price will likely be better, also. They can provide you with close up images of stones that you can post here.

(It is very important for the diamond seller to set a princess cut stone because there is a possibility that those little corners can be chipped during setting and there's no way I'd want to be liable for that.)

Thank you Gypsy and Diamondseeker2006. We will give them a call soon and find out what they say. I am also starting to like another setting that whiteflash has that looks a lot similar to the one I like, so I will most likely go with it if it costs too much to have that zale's setting. Thanks again!
