Do you think high heels make women''s legs look better?

At what age should a woman stop wearing high heels?
Never?

I'm not talking about medical necessity.
I'm talking about the look.

Yes they do all sorts of nice things for a women's legs/butt. I'm now 48. My high heel days ended about 10 years ago. I will now spend *any* amount of money on a pair of shoes that are comfortable for walking in all day. I have arthritis in one foot, so this is pretty much impossible and I've tried every brand out there. So rock the look while you can, but also don't mangle your feet because that is very unatrractive.

Never. I hate that our society thinks women should stop trying past a certain age. I don''t care if woman want to, they should be able to but there are some things about it people get really wierd about. For example, woman who keep their hair long after it has gone grey or in any way more stylish than the short curls. I have actually heard a woman being told it is inappropriate to have long hair at her age when it looked great. If you can rock the look, whatever it is, you are not too old for it.

Funny you should mention long grey hair.
When I posed the question I visualized an old woman with long grey hair and high heels and a low-cut top.

So you feel there is no such thing as age-appropriate appearance?

Myself, I'm conflicted on this, for both women and men.
We live in a Southern California beach city, and I've seen men clearly in their 60s wearing speedos, rollerblades and iPods boogying down our beach bike path.
I think, Bless his heart, I don't have the huevos to do that.

That''s a good question, Mrs. M.

I wear pretty high heels on a regular basis (4'' to 5'') and have no problem walking in them at all. I wore 5'' heels on my wedding day, walked quite gracefully and danced for hours, and have the video to prove it!

I can''t remember ever having had a problem walking in heels. It wasn''t like I had to learn to do it or anything. When I was little I ran around the house in those plastic pink and purple heels they used to sell. A horrible toy, to be sure, but maybe that''s why I can easily walk in them now.
I share Haven''s experience and I don''t have bunions, corns or any twisted toes as a result. What I do have now, though, is an inner ear problem that would cause me to fall on my face if I tried.

Oh, I don''t mean that, miniskirts after 35 should NEVER be allowed, but like I said, if they can rock it. If Sophia Loren or Helen Mirran decide to wear low cuts tops, they should, they can pull it off. I want to be Fionnula Flanagan with age. She often wears her hair long, still wears low cut stuff, but not innappropriately low and her legs look better than mine.

Oh don''t visualize that kenny - you''ll have nightmares.

I think the height of the shoes should be dictated by personal preference, foot health, and ability to walk in them, not age. Style, however, is a different matter. My feet are fine, but at 41, I will not wear anything super trendy or trashy (no fmp''s). That doesn''t mean I''m wearing squishy granny shoes, but I do invest more time in finding a pair that''s stylish and comfortable/safe. I like that a lot of brands are putting non-skid soles on their shoes, even dressy shoes and sandals.

Yes they look awesome on women! But, I can''t wear them. They kill my feet. I like flats anyways... (and I''m not very graceful).

For the most part, yes. I wish I could wear them more often but I''m a huge baby when it comes to comfort and usually end up in my flip flops (which I hear are also terrible for your feet!)

most of the time yes - but only ''better'' based on our societal perceptions of what better would mean. This ''better'' is nowhere near worth the health of my back, knees, or feet! :)

If my legs weren''t so pasty white right now, I would!
bah - the pasty white people need to revolt!! Here in china I''m like a movie star with my ultra white skin. Everywhere I go the women fawn over how fair I am. There''s no one gonna see my white legs this summer and think I should put on pants! Well, except for the two weeks in san diego... lol

ksinger--Oh, I know. My husband is a muscle specialist who specializes in foot function. I''m very blessed that I have him around to keep my body functioning. I think he''s the main reason that I am able to wear such high heels without pain.

Are Naots less expensive in Israel? I know it''s an Israeli company. If so, I wonder if we could figure out a way for my sister to bring some back for you . . . Hmmm.

Mrs. M.--You have unworn Jimmy Choos?! Are they uncomfortable? I''ve never tried a pair because they are just too far out of my price range.
They are car-to-bar shoes. I can stand in them for the time it takes me to brush my hair before I go out. I therefore go out without them. Plus I''m a slow learner - want them in black, black, olive or red?

I bought them because I thought going high end would be the secret. I find high heels so uncomfortable and I thought it might be because I wasn''t buying good quality. It isn''t, it''s becasue high heels are uncomfortable (unless you''re born to them...).

They aren''t as bad as cheaper ones, but they are still high heels.

I love high heels and still wear them often, I think they do great things for legs and posture if one can walk in them.

A saying of Marilyn Monroe''s was " I don''t know who invented high heels but whoever he was, women sure owe him a lot....."

I *love* heels, but that said, I only wear them 1-2x per month. I wear sneakers on a daily basis at work/home.

I have shorter legs, and they are well muscled (read: thick but not flabby!

) . They look stocky in flats, but in heels, wow my legs look spectacular! I look leaner and stand up straighter. And I *feel* sexier, which makes a world of difference too.

I hope that because of my strong balanced legs, and the fact that I rarely wear heels, that I will be able to rock them for many years to come. But I may speak differently when I get there!

What size do you wear Mrs Mitchell?
31.gif

I wear heeled shoes every day. In fact, after becoming a bit clumsy in my sandals (which all have 2" heels) I had to go buy a couple pairs of flip flops yesterday. My jeans drag and I feel like I''m leaning or something.

I also feel short.

I love wearing ballerina flats, so comfortable, and I will never give them up after a life time in heels - something about walking comfortably, I think is just as beautiful as balancing on heels. To each age, its own. For me now, its being natural.

But I must say high heels do shape the body, curve the spine for a beautiful derrierre, a la Brigette Bardot!

Heels might make a woman''s legs look better, but only if she can walk properly and confidently in them. The high-heel-hobble is sooo not sexy!
Which is why I don''t wear heels.
