Do you think Harry Winston E-Rings are worth it?

Yes, they're gorgeous, but do you think they're worth it? Or is it more about the cache of having a HW?

I personally wouldn't buy a big brand name because I know I could get a bigger diamond for the money. However, some people do want the brand and its worth it to them to pay the extra.

No.

I think you are paying for the brand and the setting. Brands like Cartier and Tiffany have really gorgeous settings. But I must say for that price, you are getting a fairly poorer quality stone. Sure, they will try to tell you its all in their cutting and its backed by their brand... but seriously, who would know a ring is from HW, Cartier or Tiffany? Unless u have the box wherever you go :) :D

It depends. I think in smaller sizes not so much. If I could afford a 1 carat diamond at HW (or smaler) or a larger diamond someplace else I would go for the larger diamond every time.

But if you can afford a larger HW diamond like a 1.5 to 2 carat and that's the size that you like on your hand (or your lady likes on her hand) then, yes why not get the cache.

For me, no, but if the brand name is important or the design couldn't be replicated easily elsewhere, yes. For example: the Legacy. I have yet to see a duplicate of that ring that is anywhere as nice as the Tiffany version. The Crisscut Cushion is the closest stone I have ever seen to the Tiffany cut, but no one has done a setting that comes close enough to blow me away. Then again, I'd love a solitaire Crisscut cushion...

Well, I think if I seriously had unlimited money, it would be tempting and very easy to just walk in HW, Cartier, etc. and buy whatever I wanted! However, after having been here awhile, I have learned that you can buy equal or better quality diamonds AND get equal or better custom made settings. So it is very hard for me to justify spending that much when I see rings made by people like Victor Canera that are perfection.

+1

I'd rather channel my limited $$$ into a bigger bang for my buck than into a 'name'. No one looks at the label, people just look at what the ring is.

I agree 100%

not to me..IMO, a nice diamond is a nice diamond no matter where it came from.

Ditto. Nothing wrong with it but I personally would never spend extra $$ just to have a high-end brand.

That's what I wonder. Unless you're the type to boast, "Look at my HW ring. Do you like it?" (Which I'm totally not) I wonder if it matters.
I'm a novice, so at the same time, I feel like you're more likely to get a better quality ring overall. I've started trying to pick a nice stone at the moment for a possible custom-made ER instead, and I'm having a really hard time knowing what will perform the best.

It's overwhelming, and I feel like there's a peace-of-mind factor in getting something from higher-end places.

I'm of two minds on this one. If it's your favorite brand and you will feel joy from wearing it, then yes. I would pay stupid bucks to wear a ring from my favorite designer - and I know that it's a "waste" because technically I could get a better stone elsewhere.

I'm a fan of estate signed pieces. They are less than retail but still have good resale value because of the brand. Plus
Plus none of the drama of a custom piece. I love the idea of custom but have seen many threads on how wrong it can go. You get
to try on a finished ring instead of hoping it turns out ok. HW and some other compainies also have lovely designs.

If a Harry Winston E-Ring is worth it TO YOU then it is.
If it's not worth it TO YOU, then it's not.

What are you looking for, 51% saying yes for "proof" it is worth it?

Your question implies there is one single answer that applies to everyone, when actually, (shock of all shocks) people vary.

I never notice brands so for me, no.

I like brand name things for their designs and qualities. I carry brand name purses and *when I was younger* I bought silver pieces from Tiffany. I still drop by Tiffany sometimes to adore their jewelry pieces mainly for the designs.

When it comes to diamonds, however, i think a diamond is a diamond. Brand names definitely guarantee a certain quality (and many custom pieces are often *inspired* by brand name designs) but I am a sucker for ideal/super ideal cuts so the only one I seriously considered buying is HOF (I also love their designs). But no I don't think I want to love the brand and pay the premium just for its name.

I think all the answers so far here have covered all the possible answers to the question.

But I will just add that the `worth it` bit to me has to first assume that the buyer isn`t going down in size due to the premium. So, for example you are not walking out with a diamond ring so small that it`s mainly setting!!!! LOL. Because then I think the buyer could have done better going custom and getting more for the budget.

But, if the buyer has more money than he can ever spend in a lifetime, I cant see why you wouldn`t want the whole buying experience and ease of just being served and walking out with a spectacular ring without having to do any heavy research and running around. Not having to `worry` about settings coming out a certain way etc is definately worth a premium to many.

I`m pretty sure that if people could get the savings on buying their own diamond, but still get to use a place like Harry Winston for the consistency and design of their settings they would jump at this option! I dont think people are just buying at HW for the diamonds, it`s more for the setting and quality control of the finished item. Plus the `experience` is also rewarding to many folk. I know that as I get older I do put more value into the buying `experience` and like to return to shops that look after me even if I could getthings a little cheaper elsewhere, but I enjoy the good feelings that come from having a relationship with the shop staff.

For me, my mind often wonders though how you would actually choose between all the top diamond heavy weights if you had one of those movie star or basketball wives budget!!!!! I like to wonder how one would indeed choose between Cartier, Bulgari, Harry Winston plus other high end places.

Wonder if we have ever had anyone needing help for that problem???? lol

(This curiosity is based on my visits to Las Vegas and imagining if I `had` to buy one of the many million dollar rings I viewed in the windows of the spectacular shops there! lol)

If it makes you happy, then it's worth it!

Personally, I don't find their designs exceptional enough for the premium. I feel that if I'm going to pay top dollar for a piece of jewelry, the design should blow me away. Harry Winston erings don't do that for me.

I don't think it's possible to generalize. I agree with Gypsy. The higher you go in size, or if you want a drop dead gorgeous colored stone ring, the more it might be appealing, I would think. But as an aspirational brand, it's so expensive, why bother, kwim?

I think they can be worth it if you either really like the brand or really like a specific ring. I looked at a lot of big brands when we were shopping for an engagement ring, but ultimately none of them had the style of ring I wanted, very few had sapphire rings, and those that DID have sapphires could offer little to no information (in the way of treatments, lab reports, origin, etc) on them, and had them priced far, far higher than reasonable especially with the lack of information available. Another issue was that the colored stone rings seemed to either have very small or very, very large stones - never saw a single thing at a big brand designer store that was the size I wanted. So for me, a designer piece was not the way to go because I could not have gotten what I wanted. If, however, someone has dreamed that their engagement ring will come from HW/Cartier/Tiffany/wherever, then it is probably worth it.
