Do you really think these stones look that different in size

I was at Brian Gavin's today, and I was wondering, do you really think these two stones look that different size wise? Please pardon the lousy pics. The stones do not look brown in real life. The one is my ring with the diamond set, and the other is a loose stone just plopped in a random setting.

They look almost the same in size to me when I imagine how the prongs would look if that stone were properly set. I don't see a significant difference.

Re: Do you really think these stones look that different in

I think the one in the prongs looks about 25% bigger.

I didn't really see a big size difference, but everyone else there did. Mine is a 1.34 (7.13mm) and the loose stone is a 1.72 (7.69mm). The biggest draw is the larger stone has blue fluor and I looove it. I'm just wondering if it's worth it, or I should leave well enough alone. I truly love my stone and don't really NEED a bigger one. But, it's awesome!

Yep... Just from looking at the pic, I was guessing the loose stone was half a millimeter bigger. Glad to see I was right. So yes, it does look bigger to me.

I wish my eyes were that good! I think I'm wearing my crazy pants today, because they really look the same to me! I should have taken pics with the fake ring/spring thing so the prongs didn't interfere.

If you can't tell the difference, is it really an upgrade?

That's what I'm wondering. I just have a hard time letting go of the fluor.

Re: Do you really think these stones look that different in

I guess you have to ask yourself if you can wait until another, bigger one with flour. comes along or is there another reason compelling you to trade up? fwiw, I think it is does look bigger, but it would come down to price and how it would compare with other options.

Re: Do you really think these stones look that different in

Thanks. It's actually the same price. It was just because I can. I really don't need a bigger diamond. If I could add that lovely blue glow to my current stone, it would be perfect! It really was a gorgeous stone. They have such incredible patience (like letting me look at diamonds in the office, hallway, bathroom, by the windows...) Maybe someday I could have one of each :naughty:

Re: Do you really think these stones look that different in

Well, shoot, you didn't say they were the same price! No wonder you're considering a switch.

How do the other stats compare besides size and fluorescence? How did the two stones compare in those different lighting environments?

Re: Do you really think these stones look that different in

The loose one looks a smidgen bigger. Is it eye clean? The first photo looks like it has inclusions in the center.

Re: Do you really think these stones look that different in

The loose one looks bigger, and it's not even close to my eyes. It could completely cover the diamond+prongs of the smaller one.

Re: Do you really think these stones look that different in

The loose one is clearly larger to my eyes.

Agreed. Though I do t know what percentage of that is the unit prongs.

It is easier to see the difference in the profile picture because the prongs aren't quite in the way. Most people are able to see the 0.5 mm difference.

Re: Do you really think these stones look that different in

I decided to pass on it, but it really was an amazing stone. It was a J VS1 with VSBF. It was def eye clean (just a lousy pic, and I think that was my navy blue shirt reflecting). Mine is a G SI1 (also eye clean) I couldn't believe how white it was-EVERYWHERE. It faced up whiter than my G by the windows. And, Brian was laughing at me when I wanted to check it out in the bathroom, hallway, other parts of the office. I took it for an adventure. :) The only time it looked tinted, my G did as well because of brown carpet and bad lighting in the hallway. When it came down to it, I just couldn't give up my stone. In diffuse sunlight it has these splintery rainbows (which the other one might have as well), but I couldn't be sure. I'll prob regret it, but there will be more stones. Just another excuse to drive down there!

I can tell the unset stone is bigger. If it's the same price as your current stone, I would totally get it!

+1!! :D

Also, once it's set it will look bigger as well (the prongs trick our eyes sometimes -- which is why a 6 prong makes a round look larger than with a 4 prong setting).
