Without a doubt, yes. My dad bought my mom a lot of jewlery for a while, but she never wears it, so he stopped getting her stuff some years ago with the rare exception.
My wonderful husband loves to get me jewelry, because he always knows I will like it (easy gifting). Of my friends, I have the most expensive ering, but it''s the simplest - the only solitiare. I wanted us to splurge on a great diamond, and maybe just upgrade my setting later as an anniversary gift. I am also the only person I know who wears plat - I just can''t wear WG for rings - it starts turning yellow on me quite quickly.
Among my friends, yes. Among my relatives, probably my aunt does.
My friends aren't into jewellery and most of the friends I talk to (really DH's friends and their partners) aren't engaged yet. My most expensive item of jewellery is my engagement ring at about $1,600 so it's not like mine is terribly expensive. My friends just aren't into jewellery at all. I do expect most of them to have a more expensive collection than me once they get engaged.
Yes. My mother has a few nice things, but she nor may sisters or sisters-in-law really know alot about jewelry or collect much fine jewelry. I''ve loved it since I was a child, so I spend extra money on jewelry whereas they may spend more on clothes, purses, etc. And because of this, I am a little self-conscious about size and amount of bling I wear around friends, especially. That is why I might spend more on certain features than those who are more interested in size.
I think so... all of my friends are still in the fashion jewelry phase of life (recent college grads), you know, the people who wouldn''t have cause to own "real" jewelry unless it was a hobby/interest of theirs.
My mother has her wedding set, with a .75ct marquise and a few tiny side diamonds, and a couple of gemstone necklaces.
MIL has a gold wedding band and a diamond chip "friendship ring" that she''s been wearing since the ''70s.
So I don''t really have anyone who has much of a collection around me - not much ''competition'' (if you could call it that) to have the most expensive one!
