My girlfriend and I went looking at diamonds today. I wanted to compare colors and I was hoping to get her involved in looking at diamonds. Up until today, she hasn''t been involved. I was having fun and thought we would really enjoy it together. The setting will remain as my secret though.
She mentioned that her friend had a stone that had a blue/purple glow sometimes. I mentioned that this was from fluorescence and she said that she liked it. I have since decided that I want to find a stone with strong/very strong blue fluorescence. I may compromise with medium, but I want to make sure she can see it when she wants to.
My point for today was to compare J/K colors. I was reading about people''s rings that are J/K colored. I figured that if I can save money or get a bigger stone, I''d love to go that route. We saw a few J''s and a few K''s today. The first J we saw was graded by IGI and was an oval... and it was VERY yellow. I started to get worried when I saw it. Later we saw a 2ct J IGI graded Princess that was beautiful. Very noticeable color though... possibly because of the cut. We finally found a store with some nicely graded stones. One we found was either an AGS or GIA (not sure), but it looked decent. It was a J with a very small hint of color. Neither of us thought the color was much different than an F we had beside it. Right now, from our small sample, it seems that GIA/AGS J''s are much less noticeable than the IGI J''s. This is good, because I will only buy GIA or AGS.
I need to know if the GIA/AGS J/K color is typically very low or if the IGI stones represent the typical J color... meaning K would be too much.
My girlfriend said that she liked the warmth of the J/K range, but thought that the IGI stones were too yellow. She also thought it would be nice to save some money by going down the J/K route.
My dilemma right now is this:
WF has an ACA K color that is a great size and saves me about $500 off of my .778ct G SI1 AGS0 that I have been considering. The ACA K color is also a VS2. The .778ct G is a Class 1A and the ACA K color is a Class 1B. I could buy this stone, risk it being overly yellow, and be disappointed.
I could also keep with my original decision and buy the .778 ct G that cost me 25% more than the K.
Neither of these stones have fluorescence though and I would love to find a stone with strong/very strong blue fluorescence, because my girlfriend likes it. I was hoping to find a .8ct J/K AGS0 with a strong blue fluorescence and anywhere from VS1 to SI1 - eye clean. This is EXTREMELY HARD to do, because hardly any AGS0s have fluorescence. I really don''t want to get a GIA certed stone, because I want to know that its AGS0 quality. Does anybody know of .8ct AGS0 J/K with strong blue fluorescence in the $1,900 - $2,500 range? I think I have checked all of the certified vendors. There are plenty in this range without fluorescence.
