I am in the process of purchasing this stone and thought it would be wise to check with the experts here. :)

I think this is close to the best stone I can get for the size and price. It does have the more splintery flashes of light instead of the pretty broader flashes, but I do have to compromise somewhere.

Thank you for your opinions!

Okay, I was going to say YES, however, the fact that you say you'll have to compromise... NO! I don't think you should get it, even with paying for an upgrade policy, if you don't absolutely love it. It seems that finding OECs is more of a waiting game, but the anticipation of finding the perfect thing can be just as satisfying as actually finding it, and make finding it that much sweeter. I'm not familiar with your search, what are you parameters and who have you tried for vendors?

You're sweet. :)

My back story is this.... I have been wearing a shattered 1.75 princess solitaire for 3 years. I was going to buy a 1.12 avc for 4,800 and upgrade it in 6 months when I found out that GOG has 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 month financing. I took the advice of another pser and decided to get a bigger stone now. I didn't really want to go smaller than my current 1.75.

As far as my parameters go... My budget is about 8k for antique stone larger than my current 1.75.

Maybe I will absolutely love the 1.9 it once I have it! I think I'm nervous about the large purchase and really wanted some feedback.

Thank you!

yes, I love that OEC, the light return on the megascope is awesome. Finding an antique stone with that great of light return is finding a needle in a haystack. I even noticed how much whiter the M looks than the K when over by the window. Almost 8mm for under $8k is great. IMO performance trumps the size of the flashes any day, especially when one considers how small a diamond really is. The 2.25 stone maybe is a little more chunky than that 1.9 M but the 1.9 out performs that stone as well in the 2nd diffused lighting segment. I think you have made a wise choice and found a stone with a great spread for the $$... your needle in a haystack.

Can't wait to see it set.

completely agree with Ariel - that's a gorgeous stone. Good specs, good pics, love the colour and loved it in the vimeo. Enjoy!!!

Thank you! That makes me feel so much better! I really needed an unbiased opinion/stamp of approval from PSers! And Rubybeth liked it too. I really appreciate your opinion!

I don't understand out why an M can look whiter than a K. I haven't wrapped my head around that but I trust it to be true which is why I was ok with purchasing an M. It is a little scary having never seen one, but the video helps.

I'll be placing it in a temporary setting for a year. After that I will put it in a reproduction antique setting.

I loved this guy! I was watching videos of this one when LJL was choosing her OEC. Yes, it's not the chunkiest of flashes that you'll get, since it's more transitional.. but it does perform rather well.

It's SUPER RARE to find larger OECs that do not have obstructions like fish eye or nailhead.. I realized when I was shopping that sometimes, yes, you kinda do have to "settle" with OECs since there's no huge abundance of them to sift through, like you can do with MRBs. It performs great, it's got the cutest "dimple" (culet! My name for culet! hehe)

and DON"T worry about the M! Have you checked out my thread? I seriously was sweating bricks about dropping the color down to an M. I was soooo surprised how NOT yellow it is. I'd say the comparison is more like looking at diamond white vs. soft white wedding dress colors. It's the soft white. The color also shows up more on the side profiles rather than the top-down view, so if you choose a setting that is ornate on the side, or a bezel, you'll pretty much eliminate that "color"! I seriously was doing one huge happy dance when I saw the M in real life! I remember LJL had a similar response to hers. M's are MMmmmMmm Yummy!!! ;))

I like it! The pattern is very pleasing to the eyes, and I love a big culet.

It seems like a really good deal and you would be paying several thousand more if you went with their August Vintage line. This one is a true antique and I think that is kind of cool. What setting are you getting?

This is a gorgeous stone and the price is insanely low! I mean, its about $3k+ less than anything else I have seen retail, and it approaches pricing on ebay.

I like this one a lot, well worth checking out. I am not sure what you mean calling it "splintery" since this is a very chunky old cut to my eye. Also, some old cuts do face up very white. My own stone faces up like an I color stone but is a K. I was shocked at the body tint when I popped it out of the mount.

I didn't spend a long time looking for an oec so I'm pleased that you and others think that this one performs well. PS teaches everyone how important cut and performance are.

No, I haven't checked out your thread, but I definitely will!

I love the wedding dress analogy! Haha

Thank you Madelise!

I absolutely agree with what you said!

I want to put it in a Single Stone setting. http://www.singlestone.com/index.php?page=collections&catID=3&pID=1237&startRow=25

A PSer recently had that setting made and I'm enamored with it. You can see that thread here... This is what I was hoping someone would confirm for me.... I'm getting a good stone and a good deal! Thank you Dreamer D!

Your avatar... That's the setting I want! I'm so in love with it. I'll be using a temporary setting for 12 months.

Stari my setting is similar to the one you want by SingleStone but mine is a little different! :)) Mine is a true antique, has an octagonal bezel without any noticable "halo" effect, and no pave on the gallery. But the one you linked earlier by SingleStone is amazing! I love this style of setting, it really adds good hand presence and protects the diamond. Also, the side view being hidden means you only see the face up color and won't see the pavilion view. If your diamond faces up whiter, and you won't know until you see it how you feel about color and its cut, then a setting like you want is a good thing! Here are more pics of my setting if you want to see them: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-dream-ring-8-1mm-european-cut-diamond.177658/page-8

Thank you for the link! Your setting is beautiful and I love that it's an antique!!!

I definitely want some sort of halo to add size ;) but I love that setting I linked because its not a traditional halo and has an antique look. I'm hoping they can make it so I can wear a wedding band flush with it. Ack I hope! I won't be getting the setting for a year so I feel like its too early to contact them and ask.

Stari did you end up purchasing this stone? I had contacted Sarah about it, and she said someone was contemplating purchasing it, and then a day later got back to me said they had purchased it. If this was you, I think you got a great stone!! I kept watching the videos over and over again, and just kept falling in love with it. I hummed and hawed over contacting GoG about it, but kept putting it off. I know this is not the stone for me since the timing was not right, but I was thinking "whoever got this stone is SO lucky!"

Yes, it's me. :) I put the stone on hold on 8/19 and then waited all weekend to call GOG to ask about it. Jon talked to me about the stone and sent me a link to a video of it. He also told me they offer longer financing than what is listed on their website which was perfect for me. Even though Jon gave his stamp of approval I'm glad that the PS community agrees.

I look forward to hearing about your stone when you get one! The search can be fun! I mean... What am I going to do with my free time now that I've found my diamond?!?

I guess with all your free time you can help others find their perfect stone...

Congrats! Madelise was right that it was one that got called in during my month-long OEC search through GOG. I decided on another stone (a 1.88 L) but this was definitely a big contender. I totally agree about it not being the most "chunky" stone - some of the facets seem large, some more splintery but its a great stone. The one I ended up getting was chunkier but the light performance of my stone is slightly less great than yours - so really I do understand the "compromise". I'm really excited that this stone went to a PSer as it was on my mind quite a bit and I cant wait to see what you do with it! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Yes indeed!!

I'm currently searching now, and it is fun looking at all the beautiful options out there, but it can get frustrating at times because the search can be so exhausting, and I can't get that feeling like a diamond is the "one" for me. I decided to talk to Adam at OWD to see what he has around, since I found a great stone on their website and decided to not hum and haw this time around. I've also been stalking the JbEG website, looking at GoG periodically, and when I want to take a break, look at settings :cheeky:

If you have any tips or suggestions, I'm happy to hear them! I hope that I can find my diamond before I drive myself crazy and before my bf changes his mind about our budget

I can't wait to see it in person! My current setting arrived at GOG on Saturday. Hopefully it won't take too long to get the new stone put in.
