Do you eat dinner at the dining table, or on the couch?

If we have people over, we eat at the table like proper people. Otherwise, it''s just tv trays in the living room. If JD''s gone, I sit in my recliner. We had a picnic table in the living room that the kids sat at, but Trapper can''t quite get the hang of not throwing things on the floor and making a huge mess. So, the picnic table is downstairs and the kids eat in the kitchen.

The dinning tablle mostly. We really enjoy this special time and get to catch up with what is going on. Did that with the kids too, we always ate together, no TV!!

I no longer have a dining room table. I totally eat on my couch.

At the dining room table, always.

I don''t think we''ve ever eaten at our dining table in the 4 months since we got it

We normally eat on the couch or at the computer table (it is two tables together so we can technically eat "together" it is just side by side instead of across from one another). We rarely eat the same thing for dinner and usually both make our own meals and sometimes at different times, so eating a sit-down meal at a table wouldn''t really work!

I think we''ve eaten on the couches...once? It was the weekend, we had pizza, and we were all watching Aliens together. I grew up with my family eating at the dining room table, no TV, and this was a time to connect with one another and talk about our days. I think there''s research out there also, that points to this being beneficial to children.

I just think the dinner table is a great place to connect with the family - to find out what the kids are doing in school, who their friends are, and what their interests are at that moment. And having the focus on dinner, nothing else, is a good opportunity to teach manners. No one eats until everyone is seated, we thank whoever cooked the meal, and we keep our elbows off the table!

I guess I''m a little old-fashioned when it comes to dinner.

Dining room table every Friday night, holidays, & when we have guests.

Otherwise, on the couches in the living room.

at our old house we always at at the dining room table - it was a wonderful room. this house we''re living in temporarily has just a nook and our table doesn''t fit right (it''s long and rectangular and it is awkward and the kids are not allowed to eat anywhere else and usually we all eat there, but not 100% of the time like we did. I prefer eating at the table. people are focused on one another instead of the TV.

On the couch for every meal.We dont have a dining room set any more (or a dining room for that matter)a house fire two years ago in the kitchen area saw to that!We use a large mission style coffee table as the dining table until the remodeling work is done on the kitchen and dining room!

I eat breakfast at the kitchen counter by myself and read the paper, my husband gets up later than me and eats breakfast on the couch w/ a newspaper.

We eat dinner at the table every night with the TV off. Every great once in a while, if a game is on that we both want to watch we''ll sit in front of the TV, that means football season for us and only happens two or three times a year.

We eat mostly on the couch, in front of the TV. When I eat on my own it''s usually in front of the computer, checking my email and surfing, although DH is trying to break me out of the habit, since he says I leave crumbs on the computer.

He also thinks I should get out of the habit, as it''ll be harder to do it once the baby comes (I''m 8 months pregnant). I agree!

At the moment, we mostly use the dining table if we have guests. When we have a family we''ll be using the dinner table as well.

Whenever we eat together (which is most dinners and breakfast on the weekends), we eat at the table. If we are dining on our own for some reason, we are usually found sitting in front of the computer, which is in a sitting room adjacent to the kitchen.

On the futon. I don''t have a table, I eat off an old microwave box!

DH and I are guilty of eating our dinner in front of the TV, on the couch, almost everyday. It is just easier for us to watch the biggest TV in the house during our evening meal.
So do my DH and I. It''s extremely rare for us to eat at the table!

believe it or not...bought our dining room set about 18 yrs ago, to this day we never sit down and ate dinner on our dining table, nope not even onetime.

send us a picture of the family sitting down for the tables first use!

We re-purposed and redecorated two of our rooms, made the smallish formal dining room into a library and now use the formal living room as a dining room...lots more room to move around and entertain too...and now that we have that space, I personally LOVE to eat in there, away from the kitchen mess...I get to enjoy the meal and my family! Wish we had done this years ago! We seem to spend more time together too, instead of when we eat in the kitchen, with a view of the TV in the family room.

And DH''s current job has a lot to do with it too...he used to work late hours, now works much closer to home...before, it was usually just me and our sons here for dinner, and a lot of the time the older one was at friend''s houses...so now it''s cool that even though our sons are now TEENS, we eat dinner together more than we ever did before...I love it, it''s how I was raised too....fun and even sometimes serious topics were discussed at the table and that time together as a family is important!

To all the young couples/people without kids, when/if you do have kids, please make eating together a priority!

Dining table always. I did read a while back that you tend to eat more if you sit in front of the TV - not sure if it was a study or just someone making their own assumption.

This is an issue we''ve been trying to balance more. A lot of our favorite shows to watch together are on at the time we often get around to eating dinner, so on those nights we''re on the couch. We discovered, though, that we''d gotten into the bad habit of eating in front of the TV even when there was NOTHING we wanted to watch. The result was we lost time that could be spent talking/connecting, plus we were eating too much because it was so mindless. We just got a new dining table that we''re actually excited to use, which is helping us to sit down together and enjoy dinner as an event in and of itself.

When we cook and eat together, table. I like to eat considerably later than FI, though, so we sometimes wind up eating by ourselves even when we're both home, which works just fine actually as FI doesn't like "my food" and I don't like "his food", and we're still getting time together.

I refuse to eat at the table without a full-length tablecloth, though

We have a kitchen counter/bar stool set that the kids sometimes eat at. Depending on our moods/dinner we eat either in the living room or table. Since the world series is on, we've been eating in the living room because DH wants to watch the game.

Dinner table, especially now with the little one is the highchair. I like having a no tv during dinner rule but DH sometimes turns on the tv.

bahaha - IF I eat not at the table it is more likely for me to do it at my desk than in front of the tv. Multitasking ;)

I can attest however, that nursing and surfing go VERY well together once it is established lol

We were really good about NEVER watching TV at the dinner table while the kids were younger. But, that was in our last house and the layout was different (there was a breakfast room and a dinning room) and there was a table seen from the kitchen. Now the TV is seen from the kitchen and it''s amazing how much that has changed the dynamics of our household.

My DH also works 50+ hours a week, so he wants to veg. Before (in the last house) he worked from home and wasn''t as tired after a long day.

We mostly eat at the table. But, if it''s pizza or nachos, we''ll hit the couch and throw in a movie.

I think it''s important for little ones to experience the dinner table with their family. They can see good manners and start to really understand conversation.

Oh, that''s what the dining table is for?

We''re waiting for our first dining set to be delivered, but so far we''ve just eaten in front of the TV in the living room. I hate to say it, but we''ll probably continue to do so even after the table and chairs arrive -- it''s just what we''re used to. I hope we use the table more often though -- we''ll see.

Ugh, this is a big point of contention in the Haven house right now.

We eat dinner in front of the television on weeknights.
We eat dinner at the dining room table Friday through Sunday nights.
I eat breakfast at the dining room table every day, DH eats it at the table when he actually eats breakfast instead of drinking a protein shake.

We only have one TV in the house, and DH REALLY loves it. DH grew up in a family that watched TV *every* night during dinner; they had a small set in the kitchen! I grew up in a family that sat at the table every night and, you know, talked, interacted, that sort of thing.

We''ve agreed that we will eat at the table every night when we have kids. We''ve also agreed to only keep one television in the house, I could not stand having a TV in the kitchen or living room! And I definitely never want one in the bedroom.

We always eat at the couch. It''s just us two, and I hate to make a mess on our gorgeous dining room table because then I have to clean it.
