Do you eat dinner at the dining table, or on the couch?

DH and I are guilty of eating our dinner in front of the TV, on the couch, almost everyday. It is just easier for us to watch the biggest TV in the house during our evening meal.

I heard some claims that eating while watching TV can increase all sorts of problems.... Do you think it is really that bad?

Guilty! We eat on the couch all the time.

we eat at the breakfast table. we have a pile of junk on top of our Chinese rosewood dining table.

Couch. The dining table is covered in wedding stuff and engagement presents. UGH.

yep, we also eat on the couch because then we get tv watching done, too. our chatting time is usually when he comes home from work (I get home earlier) and then he sits in the study and I come sit on his lap and we talk about all the scandal at the office.

unless I made something with tomato sauce because that''s quite messy, so we eat that at the dinner table. plus when we have dinner guests, which is not often.

We eat in the kitchen, either on the island or on the breakfast table, but we have an openish kitchen/family room, so you can still watch TV while eating at the table/island.
I don''t like it when the kids eat on the family room couch because they can easily eat on the kitchen table as well and still watch TV. The difference is there isn''t a lot of mess to clean up on the couch if the eat in the kitchen. Since it is a chocolate velvet couch, it is a pain to clean it and you can see all the crumbs everywhere. I hate to clean up all the crumbs that fall between the couch and on the floor.
In the kitchen it''s not bad, bc that''s what it is meant for.

Have to admit that we rarely use the table. TV trays for the win!

We eat dinner at the table.

We don't have cable, so there's no reason to sit in front of the TV.

ETA: We used to sit in front of the TV. I've noticed since we got rid of cable, that we talk a lot more, and our relationship has been better a little bit. We "connect" more when the TV is OFF.

For this reason, we have decided never to have a TV in the bedroom.

we eat at our dining table, I can''t stand to watch tv while I''m eating. Dunno why.. just don''t like it.

Watching TV while having dinner was a big "no-no" when I grew up, and that''s still the rule for me! Dinner is our time to connect, family time. So we eat at the dinner table, no TV on.

Most days, we eat at the breakfast table. We really should start using our dining room more!

Every now and then, when I''m not home, my husband lets the kids eat on the sofa in the family room.

We sit at the dining table. We used to eat on the couch till I got a new one. Then food was banned from that area!

Dinnertime is "catch-up" on what's been happening so we eat at the kitchen table. The only exception is when one of us is sick, then in front of the tv in the family room is ok.

DD's friends that stay for dinner are always amazed that we eat dinner together at the kitchen table and you'd be amazed at what you find out what goes on in the school that you would otherwise never know.

We eat at a table but its a kitchen -dining-family room kind of thing. The tv is sometimes on. I never let anyone eat sitting on the couch. Although I know they
frequently eat snacky things there when I am not around, because I find the wrappers!

We eat at our dining room table about once every 6 months...when we have guests.

I cook every week night, and we eat at on our coffee table every week night. Our coffee table is made out of a soft wood and has taken a beating over the past several years. When shopping for a new one we consider how well it will hold up with us eating on it every night.

We did agree, however, that when we have kids we will eat at the dinner table.

Dining room table but the kids eat in front of the TV in the kids den a lot. Unfortunately my husband doesnt
want to eat until about 7:30 because he works out after he gets home. The kids cant make it that long.
I really wish we could all eat together at the dining room table.

dinner table, as we have kids, and want to make sure they know that the only place to eat food is at the table and not on the couch. Otherwise if DDs are napping, we''ll snack on the couch

For us, it depends on what was cooked (if it''s messy, it''s eaten at the table) and what time it is by the time dinner is ready. We have TV shows we like to watch some evenings beginning around 8 PM, so if dinner isn''t ready until close to or after 8, we''ll sit on the couch.

Dinner table, until the wee one came along. Now it's the couch. Once he's old enough for the highchair, we want to go back to the dinner table.

guilty of the couch with the TV trays. We don''t have a nice dining room table at the moment, its much too small and even when we clear everything off, i feel crammed. our current home is just not condusive to eating in the dining room.

when i have children, there will be no eating meals in front of the TV. it wasn''t allowed when i was growing up- we will have the same policy in my house- its just too valuable of family time to waste!

We eat at the table, but we watch tv from the table.

We talk even while the tv is on, so it doesn''t bother me. I remember one time though, I was feeling a bit of a disconnect, so we made it a point to keep the tv off for about a week.

I don''t plan on watching tv during dinner when we have children.

Kitchen table..no TV in kitchen yet, thank god. (DH likes flatscreens everywhere).

Guilty! DH and I eat on the couch while watching Jeopardy every night. But if we had kids, I would insist that we eat at the table.

We do both, but we eat at the dining table more often than not. Now that we have all new furniture and rugs I''m not a fan of eating on the new couch over the new rug!

We usually eat at the couch.

In our defense, we carpool home from work and then make dinner together, so we are usually chatting about our days and whatnot during that time. By the time we sit down to eat in front of the tv, we''ve already connected.

I would like to eat at the table, but I don''t think we''d ever get a chance to watch the tv we tape!

i grew up watching a tv at every meal (my family records shows to watch with supper). i got tired of it awhile ago, now i go eat and get up when i''m done and do work of some sort and am consequently in trouble for ''not spending time with the family'' fi and i agreed that our house will have at most two tvs (a small one in the kitchen for weather alert purposes since half the time it''ll be too noisy to hear the radio) and we won''t watch tv with meals, we''ll talk

Ditto this. We didn''t even own a dining room table at our last apartment - no room for one - so we had no choice anyway. But I told my husband that once the baby arrives, we will only eat at the table. I am ok with the tv being on during dinner, but I want to teach my kids that eating at the table (and not running around it in circles!) is how it is done. After all, I want to be able to take them out to dinner once in awhile without stressing about their behaviour lol.

Couch eaters. We like eating it there, but I think that one of the reasons is that we don''t have comfortable chairs in the kitchen. I don''t know what problems it causes though.

When DH is here, we always eat at the table. If he''s away, I eat on the couch, in front of the TV. If I''m away, he eats out
