Do mountings cause shadows?

I have a question about mounted diamonds. When looking at the profile (side-view) of a mounted round diamond (with 4-prongs), would the prongs cast any sort of reflection or shadow? I attach a scan of a ring that appears to have this phenomena. The reflection begins inbetween the girdle and the cutlet, and goes to the cutlet area. Is this a reflection, or are we talking about something more serious? I'll follow up with a close-up.

Gonnadoit, I'd say it is very possible that you see reflections of the surroundings in the diamond. However, as Garry wrote in the oter post, it isn't important what reflections you see from the side. Only face up view (and a little tilt) that counts.
