My current setting is a simple 4 prong. You can see the diamond on all four sides, and it would seem this allows light to come in on all sides. Does this allow the diamond to sparkle more?

I am enchanted by halos and am changing my setting (and maybe the stone too.) Should I be concerned about light performance?

A well cut stone will not depend on light reaching the observer from a light source in the pavilion.

of course, optics dictates there will be some light loss - even a superideal doesn't accept and return only through the top

just be sure to buy a well-cut stone and the light loss will be negligible.

To answer the title question, not normally with a well cut stone.

OK good to know. Halo it is! Yippeeeee!

Thanks for your responses!

Petrock- if the setting is properly done, and utilizes prongs- as opposed to a bezel- light loss should be minimal.
Bezels do have a greater impact on brilliance (typically) compared to prongs.

Rockdiamond- thank you for your input. I like the look of a prong setting better so that is good!
