Oh yes, some dog forums are really harsh. When I was having the problems with my Rottweiler I went to one to seek help. The people spent four pages telling me that I was a bad owner. I made the mistake of explaining that while I love my dog A LOT, I still feel that her being a danger to people was a major consideration considering that she was growling at people. I wasn't trying to get rid of my dog, or anything. I was looking for some advice for behavior modification for my dog. I thought I couldn't be the only person that had issues like these. But apparently I was because I got reamed. I left the forum and never returned. I didn't get one stitch of anything constructive.

Anyways, I prefer to be part of a forum that has a little more emotional distance to the subject matter.

heraanderson-

I was going to tease you by saying something to the effect of, "Oh, a growling Rottweiler! No wonder everyone was upset!" or something of that nature, but then I remembered that my (dry) sense of humor gets me in terrible touble at least 50% of the time here on Pricescope, and thought that I had better not risk being misunderstood! Suffice it to say that I feel your pain!!! I had very, very bad Lab whom I adored and I really, really, really tried hard to modify his bad manners all his life!!!

Hugs,
Deb

LOL- I would have gotten the humor but if I didn't, I would have just mentally added you to my PS crazies list :loopy:

The people who post here, are very intelligent. That is what brought me to join. Posts are written with great care and attention to detail. Most people that respond actually shive a git... Meaning they care..

I don't seek other forums. PS is it for me, besides FB... FB is a bridge... I hope PS knows that... ;))

Dog forums... Yeah, no thanks. I got a new puppy, pics are on FB. Many of you know I lost Casper July 12th...

The new puppy?? Born July 12th, it was a sign... She is a Morkie. Part Yorkie and part Maltese..

There was no replacing Casper. I thought I would go a year before getting another dog..

This little Minx, just caught my heart. I called Ash and said ok, drive home or what...

She said , this dog belongs . Bring her home..

And that it was. She is right at home.

My thing about Dog forums is that they put everyone down... Casper was 17, was AKC but probably from a less than stellar breeder...

BUT he lived a long and very happy life. I can't ask for more than that.

Casper was an :saint: . God bless him and you for the care you gave him when he grew old, Kaleigh. I know how much you loved him.

I visit small history forums. They are more professional and people know so much, I feel intimidated. What is different, if you say something, you'd better be able to prove it, so each time I made a statement, I had to go through five or six books to look up a citation. Very precise. This one is more laidback. Also, very well-organized and user-friendly, and this is the main reason why I come here.

I have to say, some dog forums are the worst, there's a lot of ego in some online breed/activity clubs.
I belonged to one for many years and finally left when the vibe changed towards many newbies.
Many new members came aboard with pups from breeders with bad reputations for ethics and/or genetic issues in their lines. The newbies weren't aware of these issues and were ostracized and criticized. But they already have the pup, there's no returning it, why not help them and welcome them so they have support?
Or a newbie would post questions that should have been asked before they purchased this breed of a pup, now it's apparent they aren't a good match for this breed and they'd get slammed and this scare them off.
But , this doesn't help the dog or the owner, :nono:

Well...this is a threadjack, but I had to say that I found this really interesting, maplefemme. I have never been on any Internet dog fora. I have always owned dogs, but am not a dog expert and never felt the need to do more than tell little stories about what my pet was into. (Naturally I have needed and sought advice, but I didn't do that by joining a dog forum. I asked questions here; I consulted my vet, my breeder, a trainer, I looked at on-line advice sites, etcetera.)

What I wanted to say was that one one of the most controversial discussions in which I was involved on Pricescope, started about one of my dogs. Since I was on Pricescope back in the days when we were allowed to discuss politics and I went through the 2008 presidential primaries and general election with others here and since I have discussed matters like abortion and the death penalty on Pricescope, it seems amazing that the dog discussion aroused the most passion!
I find you very astute. You hit on something I had never before noticed.

PS-I will never join any Internet dog forum knowing what I do now. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you Deb, ditto, I enjoy your posts. I don't always share your opinions on certain things but you always give me something to think about, an angle I may not have considered, I think that's the best type of forum. One that supports positively, challenges your thoughts, broadens your scope, you bring that.

Heraanderson - Sorry to hear you experience. That's what bites my butt, people ask for help and get nothing but critique and judgement. Behavior issues happen for a myriad of reasons. What a lot of these "breedists" don't grasp is that we are all in it together. The public, in general, groups breeds, good breed - bad breed. We should share our knowledge, help other owners and dogs like you who are actively reaching out for help.
Do you still have issues with your Rottie?
Sorry for the threadjack!
