Do crown and pavillion angels matter if you have ASET and ideascope images?

My stone has a slightly thick crown angel (35.6%) and shallow pavllion angel (40.6%) but the ASET and ideascope iamges look fine. Should I worry about brilliance and leakage?

Thank you very much!

Yes. The angles affect whether the light performance favors fire, or brilliance, or provides a good balance between the two. Search here for FIC (firey ideal cut) and BIC (brilliant ideal cut) and cheat sheet. Then read through those threads. If you increase one of those angles, the other must decrease, or you get undesirable effects like nail or fisheye or steep/deep, etc.

That's just the very abbreviated answer.

yes because scopes do not show obstruction issues very well.
35.6x40.6 should be fine if those numbers are accurate with matching lower halves
Are the numbers from a sarin scan or a grading report?

Thanks alot for the replies!

Both the AGS report and the Sarin report show the same measures:

Depth % 62.3
Table % 56.4
Crown Angle 35.6
Star 51.0
Pavilion Angle 40.6
Crown % 15.7
Lower Girdle % 77.0
Culet Pointed

Does this satisfy the requirements for being an "ideal cut"?

Girdle: 1.7%~3.8%

I forgot to mention that the HCA score is 1.4 (which I thought wasn't too bad??)

Well at least you know it's def. worth getting the images for, IS or ASET.

The high crown should help with more fire! With what you listed, it appears all combos play well. It would be detrimental if the pav. angle was deeper, fortunately this is compensated it seems. When will you get the ASET images?

I have the ASET and the ideascrope images already. They both seem fine (i.e. no leakeages). But given that it has a thick crown and shallow pavillion angle, I wanted to know if the stone will still look as "bright" as an ideal cut stone should be?

Yes, just a slightly different look than some.
Its more of a personality difference than a quality difference.
Some high end jewelers prefer the look of the slightly higher crown for their products so there is nothing wrong with it if the pavilion matches which this one does.

I always thought ASET and IS images trumped numbers. In any case, it sounds like a lovely diamond. I prefer stones with higher crowns and shallower pav angles. They tend to show lots of fire.

Thanks for the reply, Karl! So how different does it look compared to other ideal cuts, in terms of brightness and sparkle?

Yes, I did notice a lot of flashes of colors in this stone! But sometimes I can also see some dark areas around the center so I wasn't sure about its "brightness" compared to others. Thanks!

Although after reading some more on this forum, I realized the dark areas I saw around the center of the diamond might just be a reflection of myself :-)

Just so you know, if a stone is graded AGS Ideal cut, you don't need to use the HCA at all because AGS has evaluated light performance for you. But when you do use the HCA, a 1.4 isn't better than a 1.0 or a 2.0. It just lets you know that the stone falls into a range that would indicate it is worth getting more information.
