Hello experts!

I am looking at this stone:
Carat weight: 2ct
Shape: Round
Color: J
Clarity: SI2
Cut grade: Excellent
Depth: 61.9%
Table: 57%
Culet: None
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 8.08x8.12x5.01mm
Comment: H&A,EXCELLENT
Lab certificate: EGL

The special note says that 8 hearts and 8 arrows are visible. However, the EGL plot shows a lengthy, thick, red line from the edge slanting towards the center(not extending into the table). This line shows on the drawing of the top and the bottom of the stone. The rest of the plot is completely clear. I do not know what this red line means. Since it is SI2, does that mean it will not be black? Is it worth a look? It is a great price...Please help me decipher.

One single line on an EGL SI2 is probably a feather, and one I'd get checked out by a pro before buying the diamond.
EGL can be soft on grading so the same stone may get an I1 or I2 from GIA and AGS.

One single feather on such a stone may be a mechanical stability concern.

As far as the plot, and how it looks-= that rarely translates intro what you'll see when looking at the diamond.
I'd say that , in general, SI2 grades issued by non GIA labs are far more likely to have eye visible imperfection.

I'd also be a bit skeptical of the color, again, based on a lot of experience looking at both GIA and non GIA stones.
I'd ask the seller straight out if they consider the stone to be eye clean.
I'd also ask them if the stone looks colorless, or if looks less than white.
Make sure you get a money back guarantee.

I love K-L-M colors - probably as much as J- however I want to see them offered as what they are.

After looking at a lot of these non GIA stones there's virtually never a "bargain"- just soft grading.

When I say non GIA I'm excluding AGS, which is on par with GIA

Hi Wendy

Can you post the crown and pavilion percentages or angles too please? As above EGL are considered to be less accurate on grading than GIA or AGS and this can also depend on the branch of EGL, with EGL USA being the strongest of these labs. Also images of both hearts and arrows would be needed in order to properly judge this diamond as it is sold as such.

I would make any sale final on the diamond checking out to your satisfaction in all respects with an independant appraisal and get a return policy in writing. Also you would need to make sure it is absolutely eyeclean to your standards, it might not be eyeclean and it is possible it could grade lower than SI2.
