Which is more accurate?

No so much on color/clarity/carat, but as far as cut.

What is the margin of error on say the Depth %?

Depends on the lab, depends on the appraiser. GIA & AGS are known for their consistent and accurate grading. Many of the EGL lab's aren't bad either.

Many appraiser's are just as accurate as these labs. The difference is the major labs are usually more recognized, thus their reports often carry more nationwide/worldwide credibility.

Depends. My appraisals for example, are much more extensive than GIA's in regards to cut. RockDoc's and Dave Atlas' are as well.

The depth measurement is a good one to pick because it is a solid measurement. All the appraiser has to do is hold the stone from top to bottom between his mm gauge.

Except for minute differences between calibrations between mm gauges (which you will most always encounter), the depth measurement should be practically the same between appraisers.

Remember though, you're talking about a measurement that gets into the hundreths of a millimeter. Don't be surprised if one appraiser or lab has it listed as 6.50 mm, and another has it as 6.52 or 6.53 mm. If it gets much past that, then I would give it a thorough second look.
