In order to further educate myself about the diamond buying process, I was hoping to get some feedback on the 2 round diamonds listed below. Aside from the obvious differences (price being one) What are the some of the more "hidden" things to look out for with the two. Thank you very much.

As people will tell you, rock B is too deep. Plus, it's girdle is thicker than rock A. This will mean you are paying for 'less' diamond, b/c it will be percieved as smaller when looking at it from the top down.

I'll stop there so the next person can add!

Yes, rock B is too deep, hence the smaller mm diameter.

Rock A could be nice - but you really need the crown & pavillion angles. I'm not crazy about it though.

Thank you very much for the responses. So what would be "acceptable" value ranges for a round diamond of this size?

Trying to keep cost down but I also know that means sacrificing some of the preferred specs. Just looking for the perfect balance of price and quality for my dollar.

Thanks,
B

Excellent resource link thanks.

I just found this one online but the price seems to be curiously low. It was labeled "Ideal Cut" and the depth and table seem to be pretty good. Am I missing something?

It's probably b/c there still missing info that may affect the overall brilliance.

Table height, pavillion depth, crown and pavillion angle numbers are a good way to tell if it's really ideal cut. Ask for a Sarin report. If the cert is AGS, it will be on the page, however GIA does not supply this info. Also ask for a lightscope/firescope image, which will give you an idea of symmetry. (Although VG is alright, in my book.)

Dimensions look ok, I would say it's probably ~$1k lower than avg. I would want to know everything about it... including where those SI1 inclusions are! They could be smack dab in the middle. Make sure to find out if it's eye clean with magnification photos or better still... see it in person!

Always, always make sure you have a money back guarantee, no questions asked.
