My midwife''s intern with my recent birth was a doula, but I did not ''use'' her doula services. I did not hire a doula with my others. I didn''t consider one with DD2 and with DS1 my midwife had an intern that was also a doula. My midwife acted as my doula when I went to be induced. Barring any issues all future babies will be born at home. Most midwives have interns/assistants that act as doulas.
I guess it depends on the type of experience you want. I know they are mainly popular with the med-free crowd.
Waxing Lyrical, I read your post about your crazy fast labor . Awesome birthing post. Thanks so much for sharing that story even though ages ago, I read it today. I so enjoyed reading it and it brought back memories, half fond, half hysterical, LOL... helped me to cope with the trauma after 30 years! Very courageous lady! This stuff happens, hours of labor not too tough... we can handle it ...then the real deal get down to business final few 15- 40 minutes of back to back, wall to wall tsunami waves building. Thanks so much, helps me heal and laugh after many years.
