Did you pick out the shape of your stone for sentimental reasons at all?

My mother loved rounds. That plus that they perform well has made me fond of them.

You?

Yes, I know this is not an important question; just looking to see if any others have been influenced in a similar way.

Happiest New Year !

Honestly? In thinking back to the first set (we''re going back 27 years here), I don''t know that I really even thought about it that much. Because most of my friends had rounds, I just tended to go that way I think. I don''t even remember looking at any other shapes....

This time around for my upgrade, I really wanted an Asscher, but scratched that, and all subsequent square cuts, because I wanted as much face up size as I could get. So, I went with another round. But it''s gorgeous, and I love it.

Face up is hard to aruge against. I love squares but just bought a round because of that (well - and performance and memories of Mom who loved rounds).

Ellen, love your avitar. I''m such a fall & winter person, too.

Nope, not sentimental reasons; I just knew I didn't want a round or princess (I wanted a different shape from most ppl) and I also didn't want a marquis, EC, pear or heart for my ering... that left a square-ish stone.

I picked emerald cut for my upgrade, just because it reminded me of Grace Kelly and elegance and sophistication. No one I knew growing up had one, but I have always loved them!

I think part of the reason I like Emerald Cuts so much is because my birthstone is an emerald and I can''t wear emerald rings because I''m way too hard on my hands (emeralds are so soft). ECs feel more true to my personality. I''ve never loved rounds.

All 3 stones I''ve had are nothing like anyone else in my family. I guess I like to be different. I first picked out a marquis, then went to a pear, and now I have an oval set E/W.

I'm not an overly sentimental or mushy person at all, so I feel really silly admitting this, but one of the reasons I fell in love with asschers is because the steps seem to go on for infinity which was sort of symbolic for our love. Oy! So cheesey!

The first time Dan and I went to go look at asschers I said "Doesn't it seem to go on FOOOORREEVEEER! Just like our marriage will! Mwa-ha-ha!!"

Gee, I wonder why he was so afraid of marriage? :)

I had a round and ended up breaking that engagement. So when I got engaged and married about five years ago (this August). I went with a pear three stone for something a little different. I''m thinking I may want to upgrade (I''m prepping my husband) in a few years and am considering going back to a round or looking into getting an oval. I also love radiants....sigh.

At the time we got engaged (12 years ago), I wanted a pear because they were not at all popular where I am from and I did not want my ring to be the same as everyone else. I knew that I did not want a round or a marquise for sure. My DH liked the pear the best, so that is what I have.

I picked a heart diamond for my upgrade and only wore it as my ering for about 3 month. I now have it as a RHR (I love hearts but it wasn''t nice enough for my wring). I then bought a RB for my ering and love it.

No sentimental reasons behind my choice of a RB solitaire...I just wanted what was, imo, the good ol'' classic e-ring.

SO FUNNY, NEL!

I chose a cushion cut because it made my heart sing when I first saw one. Sentimental? Probably not. Instinctual? Yes. I insticively loved the cushion cut, so that was it!

I started off with a round that was my hubby''s grandmother''s stone, so I really didn''t have a choice as to the cut. When we upgraded the first time I wanted something totally different so we went with the princess. This last time I really thought I was going to get a round [size, baby, size!] but low and behold I ended up with a radiant and a yellow one to boot! I would have never in a million years thought that I would go for a radiant much less a yellow one but when hubby and I saw it we both fell in love.

I started with a round since that''s all I saw around me. Later, I learned that there were other shapes too so when I upgraded, I picked out my favourite, which is an EC. It appealed to me because I like step cuts. I found the round shape a bit too sparkly and common.

Nope, we didn''t pick ours for sentimental reasons. Both of us aren''t too fond of RB''s, but we both fell in love with the lucida so that was our decision made.

My husband selected my ering. He ended up with an IF princess...which I absolutely adore. He also designed my setting with even more princess cuts.

I am a diamond lover...and appreciate every cut. But since recieving my princess-licious ering and wedding band...the shape has become my absolute favorite...hands down!
