Did I pick the right diamond?

Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum but wish I knew about it when I pick my engagement ring diamond.

This is my Ering diamond. Please tell me if it is a good stone in terms of sparkle and fire and whether or not I made the right decision. I feel as if it does not have as much sparkle as the one I see on this forum. Thank you so much for your time.

The angles don't look complimentary to me, but did you run it through the HCA? Any score under 2 (sometimes 2.4 or so) means the diamond is more likely to perform well. Advanced images (ASET, IS, H&A, etc.) would further help in determining performance.

How long have you had it? Does it have an upgrade policy?

Looks like 4.4 HCA. It’s from Bluenile and I have it for over 2 years now. :(

Are you asking because you’re curious, or are you still in the exchange/return period?
Both crown and pavilion angles are high so it’s probably not facing up as large as it could be, and it’s probably not performing as some of the diamonds on this board.
you mentioned you were new to the board; were you happy with the diamond before you joined? If so, keep loving it- it’s the same diamond as before! If not and you’re in a position for an upgrade, you came to the right place to be armed with the knowledge to make a more informed decision on your next diamond!

I think I thought I was getting a ver sparkly diamond. This is before Bluenile has their Astor cut. In person, it does sparkle. But when I see some of the one in this forum, I feel . Now I maybe I can trade in, but the sentimental of being a E diamond makes me hesitate.

I would just keep it if you love your diamond due to the sentimentality of it, especially since it's a F IF. Another option is a re-cut, but there are some risks to that and you'll lose some weight in a re-cut.

Seems like you have had the stone for a while, so second guessing now doesn't do you much good. I agree that if you loved it before PS then the best thing to do might be to remember it's the same stone as it was before! If you want to trade in, you certainly can. But if you have sentimentality attached to it then you might not want to do that.

Please post a photo.
Also, very important: Set your diamond (ring) to the side. Put some water in a Pyrex measuring cup and put in microwave for 3 min (should be boiling). Take a small Pyrex dish and put in a couple drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid. Add the boiling water and swish it around. Then add your ring. Swish the water around. Let it sit overnight. In the morning, take a small, soft brush and give it a good “scrub” all over the diamond, sides, bottom, anywhere and everywhere you can reach with that small, gentle brush. Repeat if needed. Please note: if you ring is gold or platinum and either solitaire or with diamond sides tones, the above Is safe. If your ring is of another metal and/or it has other stones, please let us know before you do this. Be sure to add ring to the water, not the other way around.
THEN tell us what you think. Also, even the best cut diamond isn’t going to be providing a light show in less than desirable lighting.
Please keep in mind that this is still a GIA triple excellent. Moreover, this is a IF, F color in quite a nice size and, as such, is a rarity. This Is very special and you should feel good about that.
It’s colorless element enhances its appearance and beauty.

@Buttercookies I think if you are really unhappy with it, a recut is a great suggestion. Your stone is of such pristine rough it would be amazing. And, given ifs exceptionally high clarity, there would not be inclusion restrictions. It would be worth contacting Brian Gavin Diamonds. You would then have a super ideal cut. I recently had 2 stones recut by them, with very little weight loss. My stones were nowhere near the cut quality your GIA triple excellent already is so I think the possibility that it would not require much tweaking is worth investigating. This is a great suggestion @MRBXXXFVVS1 (I love your PS name!).

@headlight Thanks!

Also, one other thing to consider is that larger, high color, high clarity, ideal cut diamonds are actually quite hard to find. Given its rarity and price per carat being so high, cutters often want to maintain as much weight as possible. Vendors also don't carry as many in-stock due to higher inventory cost and lower demand. They often need to be custom, special orders.

Thank you for your insight. I will do that and you are right. It is still a very nice stone which has a story behind it. I may be tempted and awed by all of the diamonds in here and the nitty gritty mathematics of the cut. In the end, all diamond will shine.

If you're not sentimental about the setting, you could also add a halo or side stones (to make it a 3-stone) to give it more sparkle!

I don’t have a more current photo since it’s in the vault. But here are old photos when I took it home. (Since I know everyone loves photos in here) :mrgreen2:

@Buttercookies It looks beautiful on you! I would just enjoy it and add bling via a wedding band or something!

I am certainly no expert, but I think it is gorgeous! I have a 1.03 ct xxx F IF radiant diamond that I just love, because it is incredibly white and sparkly. When the sun is shining, it nearly blinds me! Cleaning it is a great suggestion. Mine looks like new again every time I clean it. Do what your heart and gut tells you is right, and if you keep it as is, I hope your previous appreciation of it returns! I could also send you my address if you think it just isn’t sparkly enough for you!! Lol.;)2
