Hi all! I think I've decided on a diamond for my girlfriend, but wanted to get your opinion to see what you think. I haven't made the purchase yet, but its about $5500. Based on the characteristics, is this is a good buy?

1.04 carat
H Color (Compared to a G there isn't much a difference)
SI2 (The only real inclusion that I was able to see with the scope is one along the edge of the diamond that will be covered with the setting prong)
Measurements: 6.53-6.55-3.95
Depth- 60.5
Table-59
Crown Angle-34
Medium to Slightly Thick
No Culet

GIA# is 2246143081

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank You!

Table is a little bigger than we prefer (we usually cut it off at 58%) but should be a nice stone. Pavilion angle of 40.8 with
34 crown is good. Depth is good. Any pictures or Idealscopes/Aset images you can post? That would give us a little more info.

Unfortunately no, I'll grab some when I head over to the place today. Symmetry, Polish and Cut were all Excellent with no Fluor.

5.5k for 1.0 H SI2?? overpriced

I appreciate the detailed feedback.

To respond to your comment, every online site I have used for pricing, a 1 carat with a Triple Excellent Cut and No Fluor is either in that price range or more expensive.

I only looked at JA and didn't include SI2 (only D-H & SI1 or better) and got a LOT of hits.

This was my pick, as it was completely eye clean, scored well on the HCA, and was over $700 less than your stone.

Here are the SI2's I liked:

And FWIW, fluorescence can only pose a problem if it's STRONG (and even that is rare); Faint or Medium will be beneficial in making the diamond appear whiter, so I wouldn't rule it out entirely.

I think I posed my question the wrong way- price wise is obviously going to be a little more since I went to a local jeweler here. I found great prices on some diamonds online- just never felt comfortable enough to spend a large amount of money without being able to see the diamond in person, especially with this being my first purchase. My question should have been- how do you guys feel about the overall characteristics of the stone? The HCA came out to a 1.4, and ran it under the AGA Cut Tool it graded as a 1B. My goal was to sacrifice clarity for a much better cut. Thoughts?

Can your jeweler provide you with an ASET? If not, James Allen can for their stones. Their site allows you to see the stone at many different levels of magnification, so it's better than seeing stones IRL... especially if you're viewing under jeweler's lighting (which makes EVERYTHING look good).

The diamond has some potential. Thats all that can be said without IS/ASET and magnified images.
