Hi everyone. Can you guys tell me if I made a pretty good purchase? I''m not 100% happy with what I got. I only researched for a week before I went out and bought..I found this forum after the purchase! But here are the specs:

GIA
Round Brilliant
meas: 6.44-6.47 x 3.98mm
1.00 carat
depth: 61.7%
table: 59%
girdle: thin to medium
culet: none
polish: excellent
symmetry: very good
clarity: VS1
color: E
florescence: faint

price: $6,500 + $500tax = $7,000 out the door.

was this a good purchase? I''m nt 100% comfortable with the thin girdle, faint florescence, and an E color.

And does anyone else think the light in diamond stores make the stone look more beautiful than looking at in my bedroom?

What about the E color are you unhappy with? Do you feel it is not a true E? GIA is a good cert. Some jeweler's lights can and will make the stones look different. My jeweler let me walk outside, without escort even, with two diamonds side by side on the little "tong thingies" (technical term). Had an E in one and a G in the other to look at in natural light. The G was a better cut and better clarity and I chose it over the E color. I bought a Princess cut 1.00 carat, but never shopped for round, so cannot honestly give my opinion as to your price directly. My princess is a 1.00 G, VVS2 and I paid $4,500 plus tax. Picking up the ring in a few days as soon as it is done, so don't have the cert in hand (but haven't paid for anything yet either) so I don't have all the specs yet. Sorry.

The girdle's fine, the fluorescence is fine, the color's great. I can't really make a judgement about the cut without having the crown/pavilion height/angles, but in all likelihood the diamond is an AGA Cut Class 2 or better, which would make the price great.

The diamond will look best on your fiancee in the bedroom with candles all around...

Store lighting is notorious for misleading people...that is not what your stone will ALWAYS look like. In different lighting situations the stone will look different. Candlelight, bathroom lights, sunlight (not the most flattering actually), restaurant lighting, shade, office lighting, etc. Each type of lighting will make the stone look different. Jewelry stores figured out the best lighting for selling their stones. Always ask to take the stone by a window or outside to see it in real life scenarios.

Your stone sounds very nice. Without the crown/pav angles you can't plug it into the HCA, but its colorless (don't waste your money on a D) and with VS there will be no eye visible inclusions at all. Probably not even findable for you under a 10x loupe. To get crown and pav angles you need a Sarin report.

Don't worry about the girdle...and faint fluorescence is more common that you would think. Many times GIA or another cert may note 'none' and another pair of eyes will detect faint, so that is what gets put on the appraisal or similar. Then people freak out. But in reality its not even a factor (faint fluor that is). It's only when you get into Strong fluor that it may modify how the stone looks.

Get the stone appraised by an independent party (appraiser) if you want a 2nd opinion on the stone (besides your own)...it will cost maybe $100 and you have a great report and more paperwork on your stone than you ever thought necessary. Be sure a Sarin is done and if they have cool tools like the IdealScope or similar, you can see how your stone returns light.

Congrats!
