I have been looking for a stone for a while now. I went to a smaller local dedaler recommended by several friends. I viewed several stones and saw one that caught my eye, close to the proportions I wanted and in my budget.
I was told that all stones were going to be 4.5% more because Debeers raised their prices. Has anyone else heard this or is this just a way to make me feel like I am getting a deal. I like the stone, just getting a funny feeling about the deal even though I have heard from 4 people the store is on the up and up.

Any opinions.

This is not a well proportioned diamond.

Garry, I'm confused......there weren't any crown/pav angles listed. How is there enough information to determine that it's not a well-proportioned diamond? Not questioning your expertise AT ALL, mind you....just trying to learn and to understand how you can tell that without the crown/pav info. Thanks!

I am slightly concerned in regards to this. This dealer informed me that these proportions fell in the excellant range. From all the information that I have reviewed it seems to be true. Is it that the stone is a bit deep?

If in doubt buy an ideal-scope from the links here and check for yourself.

I used DiamCal http://www.ideal-scope.com/diamond_calculator_diamcalc.asp which showed me in seconds that there were no possible good combinations for crown and pavilion angle.

The dealer could use any one of 5 international systems to show you the cut is excellent. But it aint so

You can trust me who makes not a cent and does this for the love of it, or tthe dealer who probably never read a single sceintific article on cut quality.

check out the cut chart here https://www.pricescope.com/tutor_round.asp

I'm also emailing you a copy of AGS specs that I found helpful.

Also, read here to learn why even if a diamond is cut to AGS0 proportions it may not be all that great.
