Hey All,
Sorry that this questions isn''t really pertaining to "RockyTalky," but has anyone had any problems purchasing from any of the in house sites provided by PS? If so could you please let me know which sites are the most reliable. Thank you in advance.

Giving your location may help (city, state, etc...) or the actual B&M stores you''re considering. Also try searching for the names throughout the forum, as many reviews of B&M stores have been previously posted.

I''m actually in Hawaii, making it extremely hard for me to visit any of the sites. When I wrote of in-house, I meant in regards to those stores that carry the stones advertised. Right now I''m considering James Allen and Good Old Gold, but what you know about any other jewelers would be great as well. I know that physically looking at the stone would be great. However, I don''t find myself making it to the mainland anytime soon. I read a great deal about the 4Cs and other determinants which I hope to use in making a final selection.

I highly recommend Good Old Gold. I bought an asscher from them and the service I got was exceptional. I also like www.whiteflash.com and www.jamesallen.com I have bought from WF as well. If you tell us more about what you are looking for that would help us a lot. Budget, shape, setting style etc....

Thanks for the replies. I''m actually looking for a princess or asscher between 1.0 and 1.4. As much as I''ve read, I have my heart set on something of VS2 or higher clarity, G or better color. As for the price, I''m looking to keep it under $6K. I''ve found that I''ll probably need to stay on the lower end of the Carat spectrum which is fine with me. Thank you again for your help.

Hands down for asschers.

Call Jonathan or Tim. Tell them you want a "Storm worthy" asscher. Give them you budget and specs.

My specs are as follows.

67% max depth
58-62% table
VG/VG polish/symmetry minimum.
Even girdle... not very thin or very thick.
VS in clarity
FGH in color.
Flour. Up to Medium.
No culet

If you decide to go princess, I know that Whiteflash has some amazing princess stones in house.....Mara and I saw a ton of them in May during our visit.

I''d also highly recommend Mark at Engagement Rings Direct - he seems to be really keyed in on the fancies.
 
The names people have already mentioned are the most popular around here ... no vendor is free from snafus ... but I can''t think of a better bet to get a stunning stone at a super competitive price.

Especially if you stick to favored spec #s! Seeing the stone in person always helps too ... maybe, when you find a potential winner, you can have it sent to an appraiser near you for an inperson looksie. The shipping costs & insurence is a small price to pay for peace of mind on a big purchase (especially with tricky cuts like Asschers!)

My princess came from WF and I get a ton of compliments on it. True, is wasn''t an in-house stone, but their reps worked with me to bring in the best of the bunch, and I had Brian give it his stamp of approval.

Sarge, sorry if I''m wrong, but I''m gonna assume that you''re a guy. Do you know which cut your significant other wants? IMHO, princesses and asschers have totally different looks. Although asschers are lovely, I know that I would not have wanted one. I''m a princess gal through and through!

Charger, I didn''t realize your stone wasn''t in-house. Glad they could help you find a really nice one.

The dozen or so stones we saw actually were all inhouse stones. In fact, I think someone on PS recently mentioned buying the 1.53/1.57 (?? can''t remember which) princess we both drooled over.

I was just on the phone with them two weeks ago about an adjustment to my pendant chain, and I learned they are about to get another bunch inhouse as well.

Sarge81, welcome to the forum. I don't want you to have an impression that everybody saying only good things about advertisers.

During 6+ years, there were cases of disappointments reported about advertisers of this site. You can try a boolean search about any company using such terms as, "bad experience", "bad" AND "whiteflash", "bad" AND "good old gold", etc.

E.g. some previous discussions. Judge for yourself how the vendors handled the critique.

I just completed a purchase with James Allen and I cannot say enough positive things about their service and responsiveness. If you tell them what type of stone you are seeking, you will find them incredibly helpful and responsive!

Buying a diamond is a big deal and buying online may not work for everyone. As the previous posting shows, there are folks that have found issues with many well known vendors who otherwise are considered top notch by most people. Some of these issues were subjective situations, which are based on expectations of a certain buyer, and these isolated instances may not be valid in the overall view of any vendor.

For example, posting an old thread from two years ago from a complainer who had a dubious situation with DCD does not give proper recognition of James Allen/DCD. In my recent experience, the folks at James Allen were wonderful to work with. Likewise, the kudos, and positive experiences that many have had with many other well known PriceScope vendors seem to far outweigh the complaints that have surfaced from time to time.
 
Barry at exceldiamonds has some really nice princesses. I bought my round from him a few years ago. Back then, he was more popular on here, but now I don''t see many talking about his stuff. oh well, it was a good experience overall!

I''ve maybe got another week on you from being an actual member of Pricescope, and like you was wondering how buying a diamond online would go...after joining and getting the excellent advice from various members of the group, I just purchased a diamond from Good Old Gold - mainly based on the recommendation of DiamondSeeker2006, and the number of members that had used them in the past. I worked with Tim and I can''t say enough positive things about the experience. I didn''t have the opportunity to speak with Tim live (although I would have liked to, but my schedule didn''t permit it) - all of our exchanges were via email. He handled all my questions as I had newly acquired knowledge on quality of cut, cut, cut (did I mention cut?)...and on some level I am sure what you could call my downright neurosis about purchasing a diamond online. Once making the decision to purchase, I had my diamond in hand the next day. I''d highly recommend purchasing online - and without a doubt from GOG.
