Hi everyone! I am new to this site, but it seems to have the best information around from what I can tell! My boyfriend and I have just started looking for engagement rings. We have about an $8,000 budget. I know I want something vintage or vintage-inspired, with sapphire accent stones. I would like to stay at a G color. I''m not opposed to lower clarity, as long as there are little to no visible inclusions. I also know I want round or european cut. I like several of the settings at Fay Cullen, but am worried by some of the comments I''ve read regarding the customer service there. I have also looked around at loose diamonds online. Does anyone know anything about yourdiamond.com? Also, any suggestions are very much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi halka and welcome!

Here are some vendors you can try that might have what you are looking for, I am not very familiar with yourdiamond.com,

www.goodoldgold.com

www.jewelsbyericagrace.com

www.oldworlddiamonds.com

www.singlestone.com

Well looky here..

Brian Gavin Diamonds has what might just be that exact same stone for a couple hundred lower.

Means 2 things: 1) yourdiamonds broadcasts the same virtual inventory as everyone else and 2) you can use a known, respected PS vendor and not even have to pay a premium for it.

ETA: I'd pass on that diamond, and work with BGD to find something really spectacular in your budget. There really are no deals to be had on new diamonds.

In this case, the title tag of the web site is "Loose Diamonds at Below Wholesale" and the header at the top of the page reads "Your Wholesale Loose Diamond Connection" which (if I were a consumer) leads me to believe that "this company must be the source cutter for the diamond" because otherwise their use of the word "wholesale" to promote the understanding that they are selling the diamond at "wholesale" might be considered to be fraudulent use of the term "wholesale" and might be in violation of FTC Guidelines pertaining to the use of the word "wholesale" as it applies to consumer advertising and specifically to jewelry and diamonds.

So I looked the details for the diamond referenced in the link and I managed to find a diamond with the exact same carat weight, color, clarity, fluorescence, rating, outside diameter, total depth, table diameter, girdle thickness, culet size, polish, symmetry, etc. listed by a registered diamond wholesaler for less money than the "diamond wholesaler" operating this web site is selling it for.

Darn. Now I''m confused. No, really

Is the "diamond wholesaler" who is offering the diamond to the trade for less than the "diamond wholesaler" who is offering the diamond direct to the public at "wholesale prices" the REAL wholesaler? Or is the "diamond wholesaler" who is selling the diamond to the public at a price higher than the price the diamond is being offered to the trade at "wholesale" the real diamond wholesaler? Oh, the dilemma!

Wait! Maybe the two dealers are one in the same?!?! I can''t tell because when I go to Net Sol to look up who owns the domain, the domain settings are restricted - so maybe the two dealers are one in the same - but if they are, can they advertise that they are a "diamond wholesaler" and "wholesale prices to the public" if the diamond being advertised is being offered for a lower "wholesale" price to the trade than it is being advertised to the public for?

Oh darn, I''m still confused

Oh - Oh - Oh, I know! I''ll bet that I could find the answer in this handy little PDF document published by Jewelers Vigilance Committee titled Do not be confused by the word "wholesale" in advertising and as it so happens, there is a link to the JVC located at the bottom of the web page for this company - so I''m going to get off the forum and call JoAnne at the JVC and ask her for to help me figure this out because I hate feeling confused
