Brellymom - what size did you upgrade to?Date: 1/20/2010 6:57:09 PM

When we bought my first diamond we were not able to afford anything very large - I think it was .20 carats. I didn''t think about upgrading or not upgrading because of our financial situation - I was happy to be getting married to my guy! Our financial situation was such back then that even thinking about a larger diamond would have made me laugh! But over our 30 years together, lots of things change, and one of those was our ability to buy things like larger diamonds.
I would encourage folks to buy the absolute best they can afford today and let tomorrow take care of itself. If you can afford bigger and don''t mind spending that kind of money, then by all means buy it now, if that is what you want. If you cannot afford it, then don''t - you can upgrade or not at some point later on, if it is still meaningful to you. I just hate to see young kids go into crazy debt for things that can be changed later on - but that''s just me!
Oh, and my first stone did have some sentimental value for us, and he was a bit hesitant -- but he gets so much ''credit'' for my larger stone (mostly women saying what a good job he did), that he''s over it LOL![]()
