Diamond

I have been previously posting on here regarding princess cut diamonds, but after thinking things over for awhile, I am beginnin to think round may be the way to go. My girlfriend says she doesn''t care whether its princess or round and I realize that i could probably get a lot more fire and brilliance with a round. Here is a round i may take a look at:

.65 carat, G color, SI1, Ideal cut certificate, 61.9 depth, 54 table,
VG, VG, EGL, $2,050

I realize this may be limited info, but anyone have any comments regarding this one?

Another one I may look at is this:

.66 ct, H, VS-2, 59.1 depth, 56 table, VG, G, GIA for $2335

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

EGL cert... so, do you have the respective crown and pavilion percentages ?

And here are a couple with all the stats in place...

0.61 G-VS1, $2300 (and another with specs still due ? but promissing pic. in place LINK)

0.7 F-SI2 $2125 (GIA as is could well be as clean as the SI1 by EGL... hence it got on the list)

At least there is more info to go by with these, I would think.

Without seeing the measurements for each stone, I am assuming the slightly larger table will offer a "bigger looking" stone. I sort of like the proportions a bit better on the second stone, but I like the color and clarity of the first (if the SI-1 is eyeclean).

I think color is better higher and clarity can always be lower, because few people see clarity as quickly as color. That said, the better cut on the H is likely to still have a white look to it, so no problem there...

As Ana said, before I can even recommend a stone, the angles are needed...

I just wanted to throw this Jubilee stone into the mix because it has the brilliance and spread of an ideal cut round, but it's a square. The price isn't listed, but I imagine that it's close to being within you budget, given the specs you have just listed on the other two diamonds you are considering.

Edited to add: The price on the Jubilees is supposed to be around what an H&A round would be with the same specs.

I was able to get some more information on the G color stone i originally referenced. Crown Angle: 34.2, Crown Height: 15.6%, Pavillion Angle: 40.8, and Pavillion depth: 42.9. Any additional feedback on this one? Looks like it would fit into the 1A category, depending on what the girdle is like.

Looks great from the numbers. On the HCA it gets a 1.2 TIC EX/EX/EX/VG. That's definitely a good start. Any chance you can get an idealscope picture? Just by the numbers, it might be worth it to have the stone sent to a trusted independent in your area so that you and the appraiser can evaluate the stone and see if it lives up to it's potential as an excellent performing stone. Only problem is I haven't seen any independent appraisers listed in our local yellow pages. It seems that any appraisers here also have their own retail store as well.

Have you tried clicking on the link on the top of this page for "appraisers" ? There's a long list organized by state. Also, if you post the question, somebody from your area on this forum might be able to recommend someone. Another option is to use one of the appraisers that post here, but may not necessarily be local. Two that contribute here often and are very respected, are:

Dave Atlas at www.gemappraisers.com (located in philadelphia, PA)

Rich Sherwood at www.sarasotagemlab.com (located in sarasota, FL)

Several people on this forum have sent their diamonds to them and basically paid for them to be their eyes and advise them on the quality and value of their diamond. If you haven't bought the diamond yet, than it shouldn't be any problem for the vendor to mail one of them (or any appraiser) the diamond before you buy it.

The price seems competitive (at least relative to what PS has to offer) ]

THIS gets listed at 2057 on a PS search (I guess the method of payment makes the difference).

Well, I made the plunge and purchased the EGL diamond last night that I originally referenced. Thanks to everyone for their help. Now the setting is being ordered!

If I knew it wouldn't so irritating I'd email all the different people that have these fluorescent diamonds and offer to send them a UV LED light so they could take pictures of the diamond fluorescing different colours.
