diamond upgrade & taxes/import duties question :)

Hey everyone.
So its been 5 very long and dissapointing days since WF received my wore transfere. Everyday i wake up so excited that i might get an update or pics of my order and nothing still saiz order status accepted. I did know id have to wait but im just so impatient i can not wait to see my treat after selling my old ring 18 months straight of pregnancy and not much treating myself at all!! (Unless it involved junk food )
any who all this waiting got me thinking i want to throw some more money at my diamond every year or so, so when its passed on to my daughter she will have a rock to be proud of. But i am wondering if when you upgrade you obviously pay whatever the difference is.. how does taxes and imports work on that? Do you pay taxes oj the difference you paid only? Or the cost of the whole diamond?

Eg
i paid $2400 or so aud for my diamond
next year i throw another 3000 at it.
new diamond is worth $5400
would i pay $300 taxes or $540 taxes ?

Also my ship date saiz 8th of august anyone have luck with whiteflash moving quicker than expected for their basic settings and in house diamonds ?? haha

Interesting question, and the answer rests with your specific vendor.

Locally (this is in Oz) I've seen upgrade policies that offer to contribute the full price you paid, including the General Sales Tax; you then pay the full, normal sale tax amount of the new sale.

I've also seen local policies whereby the full amount of the returned item is deducted from the new sale, but less the GST. You would definitely be expected to pay the full amount of the GST for the new sale in this case also.

Regarding the regularity of upgrades, I would prefer to go a little more slowly, with a larger value increase, as redoing the setting can become expensive in itself.

Hey lara im in aus too i think the next upgrade will be to a .8 or above.. and then wait until i can get to 1ct or bigger then wait until 1.4 etc etc. I think your right about the setting. And i think i have diamond envy. Cos no matter how many times i put on a bigger than .75ct in the shops its just overwhelmed my finger. I might email WF and see if they know how that works
