Diamond upgrade question- not totally satisfied with Jcolor

I have a 1.47 ct round cut SI2 J color diamond in my engagement ring. Can someone please offer some general information about how much more it would cost to get a similar stone with better color (G or higher)? I would be willing to sacrifice some size. A follow up question would be: do you think it would be worth it? Thanks!!

I would also like to add that I'm a complete novice when it comes to all of this so if you need an clarification or additional information I'll try to provide it.

Is this a GIA graded J colour or from some other lab? Most GIA graded Js face up very white which is why I am asking. If the colour of your stone is graded by some other lab, I would look around for a few GIA graded Js to see if they are white enough. If it is already a GIA graded J, the next step is to view a few H stones in person.

Ditto what Chrono says. It would be a help to first know what lab graded it.

My personal experience with J stones (GIA and AGS) is they in general have more tint than I prefer in a modern stone. However, I don't personally think you need to make a huge jump from J up to G. I have an I with medium blue fluorescence and love the color and effect. I also had an H and was fine with that as well. So I second Chrono's advice to increment up until you find your "color tolerance".

If you're not happy, I think it's worth looking in to doing what you can to make it better. But if it were me, I'd say there's less expensive options than a 3 grade color jump that may float your boat. One or two grades up with fluorescence might do the trick without you having to lose too much size.

Thank you both for your input. It is GIA certified.

Did you buy your stone from anywhere with an upgrade policy? If so, you should talk with your vendor and see what your options are for trading up.

If not, figure out how much a G stone would cost and how much you can get for your J color stone.

Use the "Diamond Search" under Resources at top of page:

I looked at these:

G and H color, VS2 to SI1 color, Excellent cut grade, and in-house stones only, 1.4 - 1.59 ct:
$15,665 1.47 ct to $19,625

I color only, all other variables the same:
$10,685 to $13,820

If you can accept SI2-I1 clarity and a Very Good cut grade, the price will be lower. But there were no in-house stones like that listed in the PS database.

Vendors represented: James Allen, Good Old Gold, HP Diamonds, Whiteflash only. The others may not have been linked to the database at the rime I ran that. Brian Gavin, Excel Diamonds, others were not represented.

I also prefer above J color for modern round brilliants. I think going to H color would be worth it to me.
