diamond tester

Hi everyone, I would like to begin going to estate sales, pawn shops, etc and seeing what I can find. I think I need a diamond tester, but do not know much about them. I found this one on Amazon......can anyone let me know if this is decent? Are there any other ways I can diamond hunt? Thanks!

I wouldn't rely on tester that cost only $15.

Thermal diamond testers are pretty low tech devices and mostly they work pretty well. The problems are usually with the operator, not the tool. Mostly, pawn shops and the people running estate sales have them and already know what's a diamond and what's not so I"m not sure it will be all that helpful with the task at hand. The key to being a good picker is to be able to recognize the quality and to be better at it than the person who priced it.
