Diamond Swopping ?????

Hey gang,

Just wondering: How common is diamond swopping? It''s just another consideration when I weigh my options vs. Tiffany''s, My assumption is no one would ever swop a diamond at Tiffany''s, thus you get that comfort factor when purchasing from them. I would think that''s not too common with stores like Zales and other B&Ms either, but I don''t know. Anyone ever had that problem?

you can run a search on switching and swapping; it''s been discussed a lot.

i have yet to hear a story on PS about a stone being switched. it''s always "a jeweler chipped my diamond" or "ebay stone grossly misrepresented"

Salmon in our experience this is so rare, it is best to not worry about it. Jewellers are professionals who rely on trust and good faith as the backbone of their business and they are not going to risk losing everything and or jail time to swap out diamonds, I am not saying it hasn''t happened, but it is very rare. The best advice is to trust but verify. Buy a 10x loupe and learn about your diamond, get to know it, and take note of any distinguishing marks such as inclusions which will act as a birthmark, this way you can always identify your diamond.

Lorelei, that is great advice...again, be a smart owner/consumer. Not that swapping happens a lot I hope, but why take a chance....better safe than sorry! (L, I am having e mail issues and cannot send right now!)

Your skin will crawl when you are dealing with people who base their business on stone swapping.

But mistakes can be made by anyone - so the loupe / know your diamond advice is a good idea - One of my best customers dropped Tiffany because they sold her the wrong diamond (by mistake).

Do a search with the correct spelling - swapped diamond diamond swapping etc
