I am looking for a round brilliant with an excellent cut. My budget is 15-16K and I was wondering what you experts would suggest is the best bang for my buck. I want the diamond to be at least 1.7ct (closer to 2ct) and obviously the bigger the better without sacrifcing quality. Please include clarity and color grades.

Thanks in advance for all of your suggestions!

consider I/J colors and SI1/2 (eye clean) clarities and AGS grading so you also get a light performance grade...just MHPO.

The easiest approach is to run a search using the diamond search engine found on the front page of this web site. If I were searching for a round brilliant, I would select GIA / AGS and limit the total depth to 59.0 - 61.8% and the table diameter to 53 - 57% and the clarity between SI-1 / VS-2 and the color between F - I and then see how the differences in carat weight, color and clarity effect your options. As dealers, we''re prohibited from making specific references to specific diamonds, but this is the range that I would search within to get an idea of what sells for what.

Don''t forget the setting in your budget! My recent experience (inexperience) reminded me of this. Depending on what you choose, you can easily end up spending a couple of thousand on the setting alone. Picking out the stone is ridiculously easy compared to endless choices you have when it comes to settings.

Would you ever consider purchasing a diamond through a private sale? I am considering upgrading my 1.94 VS2 H that would be around your budget. If you would like more info please post your email.

There is NO selling through pricescope, and NO posting of email addresses.

Any girl would be thrilled to get a 2.10 carat diamond! I vote for that one!

I agree, don''t forget the setting price. Maybe just get a white-gold solitaire setting for now, and pick out a more elaborate setting together later, if she doesn''t like the solitaire, . Solitaire settings in white gold seem to be about $250.
