Diamond student needs help

I have been looking for a engagement ring for my girlfriend. I almost spent my money either Cartier or Tiffany. After I came to this website, I changed my mind. My girlfriend also asked me not to waste money on the brand, better to spend on wedding. But I still want to give her a nice diamond. Today, I saw a diamond at local store (Atlanta). I was told it was Lazare Kaplan stone. The Sarin machine has this result: 0.925 carats, G, VS2, Table size 54.8%, crown angle 33.86%, pavilion angle 40.91%, Girdle thickness 4%, culet size 0.6%, total depth 62.1%, polish/symmetry VG. The HCA is report is excellent. The sales person asked for more than $6500. I am wondering if counter off $5500 is reasonable. Thanks a lot. By the way, this is a great website
