Hey @Karl_K I was reading/studying a much older PS thread last night and came across these images you shared under your @strmrdr name of yesteryear before going trade.
Anyhow the jist of the conversation was about clefts in hearts images and how those visual elements are driven by longer LGF. More than that various LGF’s are needed to help balance out different CA/PA combos. As your examples noted 34.5/40.75 vs 35.5/40.5where longer LGF’s help better balance the stone.
Anyhow all that said, the images you provided also showed the light return performance in a numerical output. On the 34.5/40.75 you noted 75 LGF’s were near identical to 83 LGF’s. What wasn’t mentioned was 76-78 and 86 LGF’s show the best light performance.
We see somewhat similar effects in the 35.5/40.5 combo but really 85-86 are the distinct winners by the output metrics.
Obviously there are various preferences associated with shorter or longer LGF’s — broader flashes vs pinfire flashes. Also hearts images will look different as longer LGF’s will have more visible clefts and larger gaps between the tips of hearts and V’s below it.
My question being — what software was/is being used to get the light return stereo outputs? And how do I get my hands on a copy? It’s very interesting to me to see how those numerical values equate to videos I see from various vendors.
