Help ladies-
It''s happened, after almost 5 years of marriage, the dreaded Diamond Shrinkage Syndrome has hit me!
Little background;
I have a BEAUTIFUL 1.5 carat solitaire, in a simple, but elegant and durable Solstice mounting. It felt big enough for so long, and I loved that I could switch out the bands for different looks, but still hang on to the sentiment of always wearing the same e-ring.
A few weeks ago, I saw a mount I really liked from Lord of Gem Rings; it was a two tone 7 mm cushion halo setting. I ordered it and some gem stones that should fit as an early birthday/Valentines day present. The quality of the diamonds was much better than expected, and while it doesn''t have the heft of my Solstice, it doesn''t look or feel like cheap costume jewelry either. Initially, when I tried it on, it seemed HUGE, but after playing with it for a few days, it''s starting to grow on me- especially after seeing the other recent post of someone putting their diamond in a Lord of Gem Rings setting. I''m pretty sure my diamond would fit just fine in there, although I need to officially confirm with my jeweler- or if any of you ladies have experience putting an approximately 7.4-7.5 mm stone in one of these. I think the big cushion-y halo might tie me over until I can upgrade, which won''t be for some time.
I''m also thinking about selling my cute little L halo, because as much as I like it, I''m very used to wearing stones bigger than a carat, so it doesn''t get as much time out of the box as I had hoped.
So, what do you think ladies?

My current set...

Little L halo- she''s .91 carats in a .22 carat halo (I think)

I voted to leave your ring as it is. I love the way it looks on your hand, and it does look big to me. Mind you, I''m the worlds worst (or best) upgrader so its surprising that I recommend you leave it alone!

I think a pretty gemstone in the logr setting will give you the size you are looking for on more blingy days.

sorry if this isn''t the answer you want... but i think i have to agree with Maisie. that''s a very pretty ring with a very pretty rock you have there... looks plenty big to me too

i really like the way diamonds pop out in a solitaire setting, and yours does that quite well

i also think the LoGR setting seems better suited for a gemstone for some reason... can''t quite put a finger on it though.

DSS is a HORRIBLE disease! I love LOGR settings, but I vote leave your solitaire as is. I think that LOGR setting would look superb with a pink colored gem!

I voted to re-set. I hate to be so blunt but given your question its the only way to explain: I dont care for your mounting. I think its heavy--the band is very thick looking and competes with the stone. I think the stone is amazing though. I would love to see a narrower delicate band with either
1-knife edge shoulders with or without pave or 2) pave on the shoulders or 3)slim baguettes on the shoulders -very delicate. The contrast between a delicate band and the stone will make the stone look bigger and not fight with it for attention. I wouldnt upgrade --the stone is stunning but I think between your fairly weighty wedding band and the weighty looking mounting--they compete with the stone.

me three. I love your setting as it is, and I love that you can change out the bands (the scattered diamond is my fave:-) You already have a diamond halo and if you put a fun gemstone in the LOGR then you''ll have a lot of great options...

I voted other. I think you should reset into a halo, but not the LOGR one. It is a little trendy with the two tone and although I think it is a great option for gems and less expensive diamonds, I hate to see your big rock in a lower quality mount! If you want a cushion halo, the vatche Grace is my fave. Or the WF Guienevere, which is only $1400 I think.

I voted to keep your current set. I really love your solitaire.

I like your solitaire and it looks big on your hand! I voted "other" because I''d vote to have it reset with another setting but not a LOGR setting. How about setting it in a very thin diamond band? I think a thinner band will make the 1.5 carat diamond pop a little more. But its lovely just the way it is, too!

Here is a trick to combat DSS. Put your diamond ring in a drawer for a week or two. Then take it out and wear it. It will seem bigger again.

You have a gorgeous solitaire set. I''d go colored stone shopping for that LOGR. LOGR is fine for a fun occasional ring, but your sturdy Solstice is best for a daily wear e-ring.

I really really love your current set. Really, it is perfect!

I voted for ''leave as is''. Your set is beautiful and your rock is huge. However, if you really want it to pop more, maybe you could consider a more delicate solitaire with a matching delicate wedding band. I actually did that just recently, as I was starting to feel my 1.25 rb was shrinking - I am now wearing my solitaire with a plain 2mm band and the stone instantly grew couple of mm''s!

I agree that a thinner setting might do the trick. Have you considered something with diamonds on the shank? I

these settings from BGD...

I do love that first BGD setting and the halos that DD mentioned.

HI:

No to LOTR. I like your present setting.

cheers--Sharon

I would re-set in a halo, but not the LOGR halo. A 1.5 carat in a halo will look huge!!

you have a truly beautiful solitaire setting. my 2 cents worth: keep it. hate to say this (those w/ halos) but i really think it''s a style that will eventually wear out its welcome. just my opinion though and my opinion isn''t worth much (unless you think it is

Hi 1.5rock, I vote for others. Since you might get rid of your current setting for another one day,why not try shaving it down first? The dainty look might be better. I recall years ago, there''s a lady Ame who had her ering shaved down to look thinner too. If the thin band still doesn''t stop DSS, halo it but not in the LOGR one cos I read on some threads that some jewelers whom the ladies bring their rings to said it''s soft? I don''t understand soft in terms of metal but there must be a reason why the jewelers said that.

Lookging forward to your transformation.

Hi I echo Anita I think your solitaire is an absolute design classic and will never date Im less sure about the halo setting I think you may like it for a couple of years then start to wish you had kept the ring as it is now. A coloured stone would be a lovely idea though for your new setting

You didn't ask, but.. ditto those who've rec'd keeping your setting. It's an absolute classic

Can you get some fabulous new stackers to dress it up? Or maybe shave down the shank a little to make that stone POP?

I like your current settings, it''s bold and classic. I think you''d miss the weight of it. Like someone else said, you could get stacking bands to change up how you wear it now and then but I''d leave it as it is. The two tone is just not my cup of tea and I think it''d turn out looking more like a cocktail ring.

I don''t know if it''s just the pictures but on the ''show me solitaire to halo'' thread it almost seems like the diamond gets lost and looks less white with a halo.

I agree with Miasie and Tony. Your ring is classic.

I (surprise, surprise) think you should bezel it.

Or - keep as is, it is a beautiful solitaire - that halo will detract from the beauty of your stone I think...

Okay, I think you''re right...
The LoGR is more of gem stone setting than something long term. For those of you who didn''t like the thick look of the other band, I have several other bands that aren''t as heavy. I like the thick band myself- it screams ''married'' ;-)
Well, I have a few stones on the way for the LoGR setting, so I''ll post those in the colored stone section when they come.
Thanks for talking me out of doing something crazy :-D

Keep ring as is. It''s beautiful and classic!
