Diamond Shape Suggestion

I am planning a wedding gift for my wife, a pendant, and I am trying to figure out what gems to use.

I am planning to use diamonds, one for each of us. I want each of the gems to reflect us and our personality.

I am going to use a asscher for me (Hopefully an ocatvia!) (or a "Trinity Hexagon" from uli if I go gemstone http://www.osirisgems.com/Designs.html close to the bottom) because I am very logical, analytical, mathematical, and kinda of a square . Probably will get a Green Diamond from D.NEA (bringing more of that scientific aspect to it)

I am trying to figure out what shape to use for my FI. I'm very stumped. She has a big heart. She loves to party, dance and have a good time. But she has a very big heart, and is very empathetic. Family and Friends mean to the world to her. If it helps at all, her ring is a round solitaire, she likes simple and classic jewelery. Any suggestions on a shape to use to represent her? If you do, why did you choose that shape?

Since you brought them up I'll mention that I'm quite partial to the Octavias.
My SO got the first one sold.

Coincidentally FedEx delivered another Octavia about two hours ago.
Yet another Octavia will arrive in the next few days.
I'm reviewing two Octavias to decide which to keep.
I can't wait to put all 3 side by side.

I have two superbly-cut rounds, an ACA and a Solasfera.
For several years I also enjoyed a top-cut generic asscher from GOG.
I've worn these fireballs for years in all kinds of lighting and moods.

I feel this has given me a relatively well-informed opinion, compared to people who have only seen pics or videos of these cuts.
The Octavia is by far my favorite diamond cut.

It has the fire and scintillation of the best-cut rounds but with that classic stop sign shape and the hall of mirrors effect of an asscher.
Plus, because of the unique high crown and small table, Octavia continues to astonish even when it is tilted pretty far off axis.

FYI, GOG only has 4 Octavias in stock now, but within 2 weeks one more will show up ...
I will be returning one of the two Octavias that I'm currently reviewing, a 1.51 ct G VS2, and a 1.06 H VVS1.

I want it to be a total surprise.

Unless you can find a way that I can non-descriptly ask her "what shape are you?"
She'll ask why I'm asking her right away. And shes not a big jewelery person either. So to get what shape she is I'd have to show her all of the shapes. Killing the surprise even more. See my dilema

Yeah I know how it is. But thats part of the point of the gift. It represents how I see her. Which I KNOW is different than how she sees herself.

I'd do a heart, oval, or pear. Don't know if you are planning to do something like a drop, but depending on size, I could see the asscher kite-set with the diamond as a drop.

I like your definitions of the various shapes. Here are some of my observations. Everything below is my opinion different diamond shape characteristics only and nothing more.
Step cut - really like the look on pictures, however the sparkle of the perfect squares placed one into another doesn't do it for me.
Heart - I actually see hearts as an extension of rounds more than ovals. They are so not popular right now, that it almost makes me to get one .
Pear - also in my mind an extension of round. Not very popular, so would make for a unique ring or pendant.
Round - became so popular, that are perceived as boring. Cut improvements that lead to performance predictably (see HCA) led to some customers seek less perfect/predictable and more unique/fun forms of it - OECs.
Cushions - popular among customers that are bored with rounds, but have not yet discovered other cuts. Antique ones (modern and old) are fun and still stand out, but most of them exist only in lower colors so it’s a big drawback.
Princess - outdated (at least for now). Will be back a generation or two later.
Oval - Very indecisive shape. Not a round, not a pear, not a cushion. My eyes don't find it looking good either in the ring or a pendant. Not a cut or shape that stands out.

Agree on Asscher and Pear (pear is actually my leading contender)

I never thought about a Trilliant, but that might work too.

Yeah as someone else stated what are your thoughts on Radiant, Marquise?

Standard cushion: fun but also down to earth (the precise patterning and softly shaped corners).
Crushed ice cushion: flirty (twinkly sparkle)
Radiant: outspoken and open (large table and busy sparkle)
Marquise: have to think about this one...

I would do a colorless asscher (.25 cts?) kite set with a pear drop (.75+cts?). It would look amazing!

ETA: Oops, but is there a political message in your structuring of the pendant? If 'your' gem goes on top, is that a problem? Because a pear will lend itself to being under the other gem!!

You could play around with the relative proportional weights of the stones though, and you could consider turning the pear upside down....

I would consider an oval otherwise. I wouldn't go 'heart' as I see them as cheesy. Your wife might see it as a touching gesture though, very suitable for a wedding day...but perhaps not something she would wear afterwards, depending on her personal style.
