Diamond setting question

Thank you for the privilege to post on this forum.This pendant [photo] contains 15 round diamonds that each measure 2.1mm. Can I remove the diamonds to create a mounting for a sapphire ring? Are 2.1mm diamonds too big to use in a setting? Thank you for replying!
