Hi all,

I''ve decided that I will be purchasing a tacori setting from Sisters Jewelry in Boston and have it sent to me in New York. I already have a loose diamond and my question is can I find a local jeweler in New York to mount the diamond onto the Tacori setting I purchased from Sisters Jewelry? Do you think it''s a bad idea or should I drive to Boston with the diamond and have it set at Sisters Jewelry?

Has anyone done this before? Buying a setting from place A, a diamond from place B and have it mounted at place C.

Sure....we see that here all the time! I'd have Sister's set your stone. You don't even have to drive there! You can send it by USPS registered mail insured up to $25,000. Often they send the stone to Tacori to set, which is even better.

(If your stone is worth over $25,000, then you may as well drive it there.)

I'd normally mail it, but I don't really trust the postal services. Sh*t happens and it's always me when it does. I'm full of bad luck. :P

Does anyone know a reputable jeweler in NYC that won't mind setting an outside diamond on an outside setting? Thanks

Registered mail is the very safest way to send something. Every hand that touches the package has to sign for it. Plus, it''s fully insured. I''ve sent stones that way several times. But if you''d rather drive to Boston, that''s fine, too! But you should have either the stone vendor or the setting vendor set the stone so someone is responsible for it to be done right. A third jeweler would probably not want to take responsibility for a stone and setting they did not sell.

The other option is to have Good Old Gold on Long Island order your setting and they''d probably set your stone.
