Hi there,

I am heading to NY at the end of the year and would love to bring back a lovely diamond for for beautiful girl.

I know Mark T and GOG are good places to start looking. But there must be other places I should view.

Can anyone here offer advice on which places to visit and their experiences with them :)

thanks!

Honestly, those two are the creme de la creme as far as I am concerned. There is also Excel if you want to explore all your options.

I actually get scared in the diamond district! I don''t dare step foot into those stalls.

I worked with Mark T and he was great.

I also enjoy stopping by Michael C Fina to browse gorgeous settings.

I was going to visit diamond district this X-mas too but something tells me I shouldn''t. It''s either I get tricked into buying a stone that I don''t really want or pay an arm and a leg for the stone I want (thinking I''m saving money).

Does anyone know who can match or beat internet prices?

GOG can!

I was down in the Diamond District alot of the stuff there is EGL certified, something are also not certified. I did feel comfortable with a few stores, and did like a couple of stones. You can definately tell some sotnes are garbage and some are ok. I did also meet with Mart T and his stuff is top of the line. You get what you pay for. If I go back to the Diamond District which I might I will definately have the stone appraised before and after it is set.

I just bought in the diamond district. I have very limited experience with the street-level stalls and merchants and generally advise that you steer clear of them. I met with a couple large houses and a couple high-end brokers in their private offices, and of those I met, two were not price competitive but two of them were--I found their prices to be as good or better than prices available thru some of the big names on this site. And yes, I was only shopping for GIA stones.

Mark at Engagement Rings Direct also can/does. He is in the DD but not at street level, so you need to call him for an appointment. We bought my diamond from him and he made my setting. Also did my best friend's setting too. He's fabulous.

I can''t recommend Mark at ERD enough. He is FABULOUS! I bought three diamonds from him so far and I know I will buy more from him in the future. His quality and prices can''t be beat in my opinion. Good Old Gold comes close too and I would also purchase from them.

Good luck in your search!

I''ve bought a few things from Diamonds by Lauren and would recommend them, especially if you''re interested in a coloued diamond. They are in the Diamond District, but not at street level, so you''d need to call first.

One small caution -there are some quite pushy sales people on the street there, which some people might find quite intimidating or at least off putting. (I tell them that I have no money and my bail conditions forbid me to use credit.

Would you mind letting the OP know who these competitive dealers are? I know I would like to know especially if they are better than some of the big names here.

me too! We worked with Mark at ERD. He is awesome.

ERD and GOG would be great places to check out if you are near them, I wouldn''t hesitate to buy from either one!

Try David S Diamond. We just got our engagment ring from him last Sat. It''s a Solasfera stone. Honestly i have never seen anything can as sparkly as this stone in my life. Everyone just loves it, and gives it a "wow". And because of its brightness and fire, the stone looks much bigger. I should take some photos and share with you guys.

We''d love to see some pictures and the specs! Always nice to find new vendors.

I got my diamond at Golda on 47th. They have been around for over 20 years and showed me exactly what I wanted to see and the price was fair (was appraised). I would see Mark for cushions, but for other cuts look around.

I was at Golda on saturday Ari was very nice have not bought anything from him. The Tiffany replica is really nice and diamond prices are real fair. I do plan on going back to him and see what he can do when I am ready to purchase.

Did he allow appraisal before the diamond was set?

A couple of my friends have bought from Golda and we even considered it too. Just wondering why you would think Mark T. is only good for cushions? A few of us here if not more have bought emerald cuts from him and were very very pleased. Yes, Mark is really good at finding cushions but also other cuts too. I''m not sure its fair to say he wouldn''t be good at finding other cuts.

Hi all,
I’m so happy I have found this site. I myself am the process of looking of an engagement ring
I was on 47street yesterday on my lunch break looking at styles and to get a feel on what out there.
I walked in a store called idjewelry and they educated me and showed me a big selection of diamonds and setting options. Yet I did not purchase anything I felt really comfortable with them and I plan to perhaps use them when I am ready. After more research they are also one of the pricescope diamond vendors. So BSM88 I would recommend you visit them .

I bought online from ID jewelry. I''m pretty sure they have a store front in the diamond district. Ykutiel was extremely helpful and I''m sure he''d be the same in person. If you''re already in the area, they are worth a look.

I did not find mark T helpful in finding what I wanted (you can PM me for more information- I think he''s a nice guy so I do not want to complain about him publically). I just found him a bit opinionated, and I did not like the photos he showed me of settings he did with pears.

Yes, Golda allowed appraisal before the diamond was purchased. My fiance went with someone with Golda to the appraiser''s office (a PS vendor on 47th) and the Golda rep waited in the office (in a separate room) while the appraiser looked at the stone. I can give you my contact there- very accomodating.

Just to clarify...and NOT to imply that ID isn''t a reputable place, but they are a new advertiser on PS...so we don''t really know a lot about them. Just because a place advertises on PS doesn''t mean it''s been vetted yet.

I don''t think we have a PM function on PS. I personally find that PS is the best eductional tool. Mark T is much better than a random vendor but like all vendors probably has his strengths and weaknesses. I find Mark to be helpful if you have educated yourself through pricescope and know exactly what you want.
