I came across a diamond by chance last November. It was around 0.8 carat, I1 quality. Normally, I would never even consider a diamond with I1 clarity. But......the cut is really good and the diamond really sparkles. In fact, I think this is the sparkiest diamond I have even seen. Although it is of I1 quality, it is a very good I1 as the flaws are by the side which I thought would be hidden with the claws. And what TRULY attracted me that GIA graded it as faint pink. And the price is really, really good. At first look, the diamond is white (what pink?) but from the side, there is a faint but distinct pink color. Anyway, I bought the diamond, gave a design to my jeweler friend and promptly forgot about it for 6 months.
My friend called me up and reminded my to collect my ring. We met at a restaurant with crappy lighting. When she showed me the ring, there was a deep silence as I stared at the ring. My first words are not very complimentary - it looks FAKE! I am not exactly unhappy with the ring but I am not really thrilled about the ring. The reason I called the ring 'fake' because I have never seen a diamond ring that sparkles so much. It was like holding a personal ball of light and that was at a place with really crappy lighting. I showed my friends my ring and the first remark that it is 'too bright'. Under sunlight, I swear this ring could blind people....
Feeling ambivalent about the ring, I dump it in my handbag and promptly forgot about it for another 2 weeks. The box fell out of my bag earlier and I take a closer look at the ring.....and promptly fell in love with it when for a moment, the centre diamond turned pink....a real pink diamond. It is really fun, most of the time, the diamond is white but under certain condition, the entire diamond turned pink.
I am keeping this diamond ring. I am quite fond of it and called it my fake-real ring because it is too sparkly for a diamond ring.
The pictures aren't that great but they are the best I could take. I am still scratching my head why a real diamond ring can have so much sparkle that it looks fake. And maybe it is just my other diamonds are crap and diamonds are supposed to be THAT sparkly.
