My new fiance is curious about storage of her ring. What does everyone do when they aren''t wearing their ring? She is wondering what to do with it when she goes to the gym or is doing something that might harm it. Pocket? Purse? on a Necklace?

Thanks!

Thanks!

The safest place for it is on her hand. That being said, that is just not always possible and not always good for the ring either. I have to take my ring off everyday when I go running for a couple hours, or whatever or am doing cleaning around the house, etc (I generally will wear the band more often).

Your fiance should designate a place she will always keep her ring when she takes it off at home (such as where she puts it while sleeping) - the original box and in her night table, etc. I would recommend she leave it at home if she goes to gym, etc. If she MUST take if off while she is away from house though, I think putting it on a necklace is a very good idea or having a "away from home" box for it that she can tuck deep into her purse (not just throwing it in there loose, etc).

And make sure there is insurance on that baby!

So, I''m not engaged yet (but hopefully with a month), but I know my mom rarely takers her ring off. Even if she goes to the gym. I''ve always wondered about this - do people wear them to bed and while taking a shower? I know in the rare instances she does take it off, she puts it in its ring box on her dresser.

In the home I''d recommend a place that a burglar would not look.

Mine lives on a ring holder when I get home. Well, it''s supposed to. Sometimes it ends up living on hooks in the bathroom and random shelves, but ideally it lives on the ring holder in the bedroom any time I''m doing something that might hurt it.

For the gym, bring a small box bag and lock in locker, or leave at home if she does not want to wear it.

I have a jewelry box on my dresser that all my jewelry goes into when I get home from work. If I were going someplace I didn''t want to wear my rings (gym, bad neighborhood, etc.) I would leave the rings at home and wear a simple band instead. The few times I''ve needed to take them off when I''m not home I put them in a small side pocked in my purse (with a zipper closure).

I never take mine off. I sleep with it and shower with it on. I do take it off when I wash my face but I put to the side (make sure it can''t fall down the drain) and it goes back on after I moisturize.

I have a secret hiding place when I am not wearing it that no one knows about. I never leave it in my jewelry box. Only the fun costume jewelry goes in there. My apartment was robbed before I was married and they took everything in my jewelry box so lesson learned.

BTW, I think it best if we do NOT post our secret hiding places.

If I was a smart burglar I'd so a search here for suggestions.

I guess it depends on the person, but I take them off. I don't wear them while sleeping, and I take them off while running, doing hot yoga, showering, cleaning, and so forth. Sometimes if I take it off for some reason when I get home from work I will just leave it off all night. My husband takes his off for the gym and while sleeping, cooking, showering, and so forth as well.

I don't like when rings get "gunky" (from shampoo/conditioner) and things like sheets can cause wear on certain rings, etc. That, and certain chemicals (chlorine, household cleaners) are harsh on certain metals or stones.

Oh, and depending on what sort of metal your ring is, etc, I would be worried about lifting weights, etc with rings on - I have seen some rather squished rings that are dented out of shape because of stuff like that (or far less abuse).

I''d say a smart burglar already has a pretty good idea where to look. When someone breaks into your home, trust me, NO place is a "secret hiding place" anymore.

Mine too. I also do not sleep in mine because the first time I did I scratched my face open on my prongs.

Sure, no location is 100% safe, but I believe that's no reason to throw your hands up in the air and leave your valuable jewelry in a jewelry box on top of your bedroom dresser.
Some places are more likely to be checked than others.

Improve your odds.
Get creative.

Ha, maybe you need to just wear mittens to bed (like babies wear so they don''t scratch their faces up).

I don't think I am throwing my hands up in the air by leaving my ring somewhere where I will remember to put it on in the morning - which is not in a jewelery box by the way as I don't wear enough jewelery to warrant keeping a box of it in my room (gasp!) but in the ring box it came in :)

In my experience, things in "super secret hiding places" are more likely to be lost by ME, then stolen by someone else and having to hide it in a "super secret hiding place" 2-3 times a day is just not practical for me. When I take it off, it's not for the purposes of preventing theft, but preventing damage from my own clumsiness.

It's rare that my ring is home without me or my husband (and if for some reason it were for a lengthy period of time it would go in the safe...which is not theft proof as if someone wants it they will take it but is at least resistant to fire and such), but even if it is, and it was stolen, jewelery can be replaced (it has sentimental value, and I really like it, but it still IS a thing), and from direct experience, someone taking the time to rob your place will take the time to look in some places you would not imagine (or have already "scoped it out" somehow). Which is why the safest place in that case, is never going to be at home, but with you or if you are going somewhere that may be "dangerous"....in a safety deposit box at the bank. If the poster had asked about long term storage, I would of said the latter...but that is probably not convenient for just wanting to take it off while she works out everyday :)

I have a secret hiding place I put my ring at night when I take it off. I don''t have to put it there 2 or 3 times a day, just once. If I take it off during the day to do dishes or something, it goes in the ring bowl next to the kitchen sink.

LOL! It''s an interesting option!

Don''t ever put it in a pocket or on a necklace or any other place on your person except your finger. If you are going out and will be somewhere you think it will get damaged, then leave it at home.

This is all great advice.

Thanks for sharing with us. We''ll start looking for hiding spots :)

Ditto...except I do take mine off 2-3 times a day for running with the dogs, doing dishes and then sleeping.

I don''t have my ring yet but once we picked it out and paid the deposit we went and bought a safe. Until I get it, it is locked in the store safe. The vendor is giving all the info (cert, valuation etc) to boyf so that he can insure it so that once it leave the store it is covered by our insurance. I know some may think the safe is overkill but I am buying boyf an expensive watch so with 2 luxury goods worth a lotta $$$$$$$$ we decided that it was best to get a safe installed in our home.

Do many of you have safes?

At the gym: I have a locker and I always put it on the hooks inside. I used to leave it in my (locked) car...in the center console/ashtray area....always out of sight.

At home: Anywhere away from the chillins. Usually on top of my jewelry box.

When mine isn''t on my finger it is home in my jewelry box. I wouldn''t put it in a pocket or a purse. I guess if I could lock it up at the gym but I don''t take those chances.

And I do not keep my ring box in an obvious place.

My collection is well hidden. My jewelry box holds synthetics and a few of my lower quality pieces. I am known for wearing jewelry and would want a thief to take the decoy pieces and not look to hard for the real stuff.

I agree that the best place for your ring is your hand. At night, I drop my jewelry into a container of GemCare, and then rinse it in the morning and dry it with my hair dryer.

My jewelry is stored in a locked armoire that is bolted to the wall of my master closet. We were able to purchase a coded/keyed dead bolt for the closet door. The door is very heavy to begin with. If someone
does break in, it would take a lot of time to get into the closet and then the box. The lock was less than a hundred dollars and give me a bit of peace of mind.

If I was going on a trip and didn''t want to take it with me, I think I would try to find another place in the closet to put it. I am not sure if that would be better or not.
